'Something was not right': Harry Lomax's mom reveals shocking discovery after son, 7, narrowly survives 'slight fall' during Mexico vacation
CABO SAN LUCAS, MEXICO: What seemed like a ‘slight fall’ for an Australian couple turned out to be a frightening incident later. The incident took place in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, when Harry, 7, was taking a stroll with his father and two younger siblings and fell while trying to jump in between concrete and winding himself on February 5. It didn’t seem much of an issue to the family, but the boy’s mother started to worry when Harry’s vomiting and dizziness didn't stop.
The concerned Lomax family, who hails from Perth, rushed the boy to a hospital in Cabo where a CT scan found the fall had perforated his spleen and had caused fluid to start seeping into his abdomen. “It was nothing out of the ordinary for him. He got up a bit winded and said he was fine and continued to walk,” Danielle Lomax told news.com.au about her son. She also said, “I brought them home and after I returned from grocery shopping, Harry was in bed vomiting, Ryan tried to help him to the toilet but he just fell. I took one look at him and knew something was not right.”

'If we didn't get him to hospital in time'
Apparently, emergency surgery was performed on Harry since his spleen was beyond repair and had already leaked 600ml of blood into his abdomen. Fortunately, the 4.5 hours of splenectomy to get rid of the damaged organ was successful and the seven-year-old returned home on February 11 after spending around six days in the hospital. “If we didn't get him to hospital in time, if his spleen continued to bleed into his body, he would have died,” shared the mother. She also opened up about how she had a little faith that her son Harry will make it, “It all happened so quickly and I was honestly praying they would bring my baby back because I didn't think he was coming back.”
Harry Lomax's family struggles to pay the bills
However, she also advised fellow travelers to keep a check on their insurance policy and renew it before time. The medical bills drew a big hole in Lomax’s pocket where it came down to $250,000, taking a huge bite off their life savings. “Do I regret not double checking the travel insurance renewal I'm sure I did in December? S*** yes! Can I change it? Nope,” Lomax shared on social media, reports the Daily Mail. She added, “If you are traveling, have insurance. If you think you do, double-check. You might not.” A GoFundMe page has, however, helped the family cover some of the cost, which raised around $8,000 in just two weeks.
