Mother of man who punched a girl unconscious outside nightclub takes him to the police herself
The mother of the man who was filmed punching a woman unconscious outside an Essex nightclub took it upon herself to take her son to the police.
The man in the incident which took place around 3 am on Saturday (July 28) was identified as Liam Holmes. The video which was shared online and angered many people shows Holmes punching the woman twice, the second one knocking the victim unconscious.
After Holmes' mother, Cathy Holmes, was made aware of the incident, she decided to take matters in her own hand and walk her son to the police station.
Cathy believes her son is more than what was seen by many people and one should not judge him olely on the basis of the video. She also revealed how Liam took care of her when she had health issues and wants people to know that the side of Liam that people see in the video is not who he is.
"I had a brain hemorrhage a while back and he's been my carer. He hardly goes out anymore and when he does this happens," she told Daily Mail.
The video shows the woman, who has not been identified, approaching James and getting close to his face; James is seen standing still with his arms folded. The two engage in a conversation which is not heard in the video but it led to things getting intense.
In no time, James punches the girl who is wearing a black top and blue jeans. However, the punch doesn't make the girl back down and she approaches him again. But the second punch is powerful enough to make her fall down and render her unconscious.
Metropolitan Police told the tabloid that the attack is being treated as grievous bodily harm. After being taken to the police by his mother, it is believed that James gave a statement regarding the incident. While it is still unclear as to why James decided to punch the girl, Cathy believes that the video only shows the end part of the incident.
"The clip online showing him hitting the girl makes him look bad but that's only a fraction of the real story," she told the tabloid. "There was a lot that went on before that clip that people don't know about. There was a lot that preceded it." Cathy believes that her son will not hit someone unless they were provoked.
"He wouldn't do that for no reason. That's all I'll say for now because we're about to meet with our solicitor to go to the police station and give a statement," she said. "The police have assured me that they have the full CCTV footage so they will know what went on beforehand."
While only a part of the incident is videotaped, at the end of the video people are heard saying "oh my god" as the camera shows the girl lying unconscious on the ground.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment following the attack. Ever since the video was shared online, people have showcased their anger towards it.
"That’s disgusting. Don’t matter what else happens you should never lay a finger on a girl! Punks like that don’t say shit to men!" wrote one, while another added, "This is disgusting. Where’s the respect nowadays. Coward!"
