Mother of Cannon Hinnant, 5, wants killer to 'rot in hell' after he shot and killed her son at point-blank range
WILSON, NORTH CAROLINA: The grieving mother of a 5-year-old boy North Carolina who was shot dead while riding his bicycle outside his home, has vowed to get justice for her son. Bonny Waddell, had taken to Facebook to share her grief over the death of her son, Cannon Hinnant who had been playing near his father's house in the city of Wilson on Sunday, August 9 when he was shot tragically.
Cannon was shot dead by Darius Sessoms in front of his two sisters, aged seven and eight. Waddell had written in her post on Tuesday, August 11, "This man will answer to me. That man will see me and my son through my face! This sorry excuse as a human being will rot in hell."
"My heart has been taken from me," she lamented. Waddell also revealed how the suspect knew her son and how 'loving' the child was since he lives next door to Cannon's father, Austin Hinnant. She had also shared a second post where she spoke about Cannon's siblings who had been playing with him when he died.
While asking people to pray for her daughters, Waddell, shared, "They just lost a puzzle piece, their best friend, a piece of their heart." The grieving mother had also written, "I will burn this country down if it’s what it’ll take to see [the alleged shooter] burn in hell. I’m ready to flip this country upside down."
"We will get our justice and I’m taking every damn body down right with him!" she continued. We had earlier reported that the victim’s mother Waddell had said, “He was just a loving kid. He had the biggest heart. It’s devastating. No one should ever have to bury their child. No mother should have to go through this.”
The authorities have not determined what the motive behind the shooting is though they have said that it had not been random. A cousin of Cannon's father had started a GoFundMe page for the family and wrote in the bio that the child was shot "because he rode into his neighbor's yard."
While speaking to WRAL, a witness Doris Lybrand said that Sessoms had ran up to the boy, placed the gun near his head and had then pulled the trigger. He then darted back inside his house. Lybrand shared, "My first reaction was he’s playing with the kids. For a second, I thought, ‘That couldn’t happen.’ People don’t run across the street and kill kids.' 25-year-old Sessoms was charged with first-degree murder on Monday, August 10, and is being held without bond. His next court date will be on August 25.
Many social media users commented on Waddell's posts offering prayers and words of comfort. One such user shared, "Praying for you. My family and friends down here have heard the news. We are all praying for you and your family." Another commented, "I'm so sorry yall are having to go through all of this, it is unimaginable and such a heartbreaking situation. Lots of love and prayers sent."
"You are an amazing mama and he will forever know how much you love him! My heart breaks and i just cried seeing this picture," yet another added.
