Pregnant mother carried baby with fatal abnormality to full term so she could donate her organs
Krysta Davis, 23, and her boyfriend Derek Lovett, 26, were told that their daughter would not live more than 30 minutes after she is born, but the girl actually lived for a week
Krysta Davis was in the 18th week of her pregnancy with daughter Rylei Arcadia Diane Lovett when she was given the devastating news that her child had an abnormality. Soon after this, Rylei was diagnosed with anencephaly, which is a rare condition in which the infant is missing parts of their brain or skull. The doctors told 23-year-old Davis and her 26-year-old boyfriend Derek Lovett that their daughter would not live more than 30 minutes after she is born.
Recalling her 2017 miscarriage, Davis, who is from Cleveland, Tennessee, told PEOPLE: "It was definitely shocking. It was a huge heartbreak knowing that we’d miscarried previously and were having complications with this pregnancy. It was really hard to take in."
