While everyone was busy getting into the festive spirit and enjoying the holidays, one British mother found that this time of the year can hold some unpleasant surprises as well. She revealed the terrifying moment she woke up in the early hours of Boxing Day on December 26 and found a stranger inside her house, sitting with her two-year-old son.

According to Manchester Evening News, the mother, who has not been identified, spoke about the harrowing incident in a now-deleted Facebook post, urging parents to be more diligent about home security and asking them to ensure that their doors and windows are locked at all times.

She speculated the woman was trying to kidnap her child, writing in the post, "4 am this morning I woke up to a woman on my stairs with my two-year-old son trying to kidnap him while me and [R***] slept in the next room. This is Hyde area. Share to let people know."

"I'm lucky I woke up or I wouldn't have my little love," she continued. She also warned those who lived in the area to be more watchful of their surroundings, writing, "Please everyone be careful Christmas night, make sure all doors and windows are locked."

The incident saw officers from the Greater Manchester Police respond to the residence in Hyde, a town of a little over 34,000 in Tameside, a short time after the incident was reported to them and arrested the intruder on suspicion of an attempted abduction. She is still said to be in police custody awaiting questioning.

Speaking about the incident, a spokesman for the Greater Manchester Police confirmed officers had been called to the home and that a woman had been arrested.

"Just after 4 am this morning, police attended an address in Hyde as a result of a report of an adult woman being found in the house, with one of the young children who live in the house," he said. "Police were called and arrived shortly after. An adult woman has been arrested and inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances."

It is currently unclear if the woman in question has been charged or if she has hired a lawyer to represent her.
