A shocking video uploaded on Facebook shows a mother flushing the head of her young son in the toilet as a punishment for swearing. Kaitlyn Wolf said that she had initially planned to wash out the mouth of her three-year-old toddler with soap, but changed her mind in the last minute and decided to get creative.

Washing the mouth with soap is a punishment that is normally used for children who have potty mouths. The Leesburg, Florida, mother said she made the decision to flush her son's head in the toilet bowl after she saw it in a film. In the footage, which has gone viral, Wolf can be seen holding her son's arms behind his back and dipping his head into the toilet after flushing. It is unclear what expletive the boy used.

Wolf defended the punishment she gave her son after the video gained her a lot of haters on the social media website. She said: "It was a joke between the three of us. My sons and I horseplay rough. We stuck his head in the toilet and flushed it. And my older son was recording it." The mother also said she sent the video to the babysitter first, Mirror Online reported.

Wolf said: "I sent it to her as a joke, like, 'Haha. This is the new way you can discipline them'. She sent it to my boyfriend's ex, who sent it out and made it go viral."

The mother said her toddler was never in any danger and that he did not "get his face wet". Speaking to local media, she claimed: "His head was never under the water, his face never got wet. It was maybe the top or this part of his hair," she said. "It's scary to think I might lose my children over this - over a joke that we played."

The video, which appears in a public post, has over 420,000 views and was shared 10,000 times as of Monday morning. It has been blurred by Facebook but not removed. The footage comes with the warning: “This video may show violence against a child or a teenager. We haven’t removed it from Facebook because it may help rescue the child in question.”

The Leesburg Police Department wrote in a post on Facebook following public outrage: "The Leesburg Police has received many calls and posts about a recently shared video on Facebook, showing a woman holding her son's head inside the rim of a toilet. The incident is currently under investigation by the Dept. of Children and Families. Detectives are working with the State Attorney's Office to determine criminal prosecution."

Wolf finally said she has been receiving death threats ever since the video went viral and is now regretting that she ever performed the stunt. She said: "It was just a game I didn't inflict harm on him. He didn't have any bruise or cuts. He was laughing during the video. Everybody just stop Facebooking me and telling me you want me to die. I get it."

Correction: We had previously reported that the incident took place in Leesburg, Virginia when it actually took place in Leesburg, Florida. We regret the error.
