A Kent mother who allegedly murdered her twin two-year-olds has now been charged. Jake and Chloe died on Thursday after they were allegedly killed by their mother Samantha Ford, who is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday. Before she was arrested, the 37-year-old mother reportedly crashed the family's Ford Galaxy into the back of a lorry, Daily Mail reports.

At 2.50 am on Thursday morning, 37-year-old Samantha was pulled from the wreckage of a crash on a dual carriageway by emergency services, before responding officers found two dying children at her home in Westwood near Margate, Kent. Despite doctors' best efforts, the youngsters were both pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.

During an investigation at the residence, forensic experts were seen examining children's mattresses, pillowcases and removing pillows wrapped in evidence bags. Last week, their father Steven Ford, who is scheduled to appear at Canterbury Magistrates' Court Saturday morning, posted a photo online of himself alongside Chloe and wrote: "Snuggling with my fave girl #daughter #myworld #twins."

In a conversation with The Sun, James Emptage, Ford's brother, said the deaths were "a terrible tragedy", while another family remembered the two kids as "lovely" children. Samantha and her keen golfer husband Steven often took their children out in the summer, as seen in photos posted on social media.

Meanwhile, Samantha was released from the hospital yesterday following treatment for the crash injuries and directly escorted into police custody, where she was interrogated about the double deaths of her children.

On Thursday morning, Samantha crashed her car into the back of a lorry on the A299 near Whitstable before authorities were called to the scene. Despite her car bonnet being completely destroyed, she managed to escape with minor injuries. Officers then drove Samantha 15 miles back to her Margate home over concerns for the welfare of her family, only to find the two children moribund at the residence.

Samantha was identified by a neighbor as a single mother who had moved into the house with her two children around three weeks ago. "I've heard the children are toddlers and one of them is two," she said. "We pass people around here and say hello to neighbors, but other than that, everyone keeps themselves to themselves. Something like this shocks you when it's on your doorstep."

It is yet to be understood why the mother was traveling on the London-bound carriageway of the A299 Thanet Way that night.

She was allegedly taken to the hospital for a broken nose, a neighbor claimed before she was discharged and taken into custody at a police station in Kent. Authorities confirmed yesterday night that Samantha had been arrested on suspicion of the murder of her two children.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate have charged a woman with murder following the deaths of two children in Margate. At around 3.35 am on Thursday, December 27, 2018, officers attended a property in Castle Drive, Margate, due to concerns for the welfare of the occupants."

The spokesman continued, "The South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended and two young children were taken to a hospital, where they were later confirmed deceased. Samantha Ford, aged 37 and of Castle Drive, Margate was arrested and on 28 December, following authorization from the Crown Prosecution Service, was charged with two counts of murder. She has been remanded in custody to appear before Canterbury Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 29 December 2018."
