'Morning Joe' host Mika Brzezinski shut down Chris Christie

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former New Jersey governor and GOP candidate Chris Christie made an appearance on ‘Morning Joe’ to discuss abortion laws with hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski.

Scarborough started the discussion with GOP candidate Nikki Haley’s position on abortion, who later asked Christie if there could be a “consensus” as opposed to “fighting over this issue and leaving it to unelected judges.”

Christie’s response led Brzezinski to counter the GOP candidate's abortion accusations, and the Internet couldn’t help but thank the 'Morning Joe' host for it.

‘Morning Joe’ host Joe Scarborough began this section of the segment and said, “About Nikki Haley's position on abortion, which, strangely enough, Vice President Mike Pence said showed a lack of leadership when she suggested working toward consensus and compromise.”

Scarborough defended Haley, “That's not weakness; that's what leaders do. Nikki brought up a very good point that Republicans are pushing for a 15-week ban, similar to the Mississippi ban."

He also added, "This aligns with the limits in France and across Europe, around 15 to 16 weeks. It's also where most Americans stand, past the first trimester.”

Scarborough then presented a question to Chris Christie, “Doesn't it seem like there could be a consensus between these two points, rather than fighting over this issue and leaving it to unelected judges for the rest of our lifetimes?”

In response to Joe Scarborough, Chris Christie said, “Listen, Joe, I've argued for decades as a lawyer that Roe v Wade was wrong. There's nothing in the Constitution that addresses this issue, and it should be left to the states.”

He added, “We should allow each state, and most importantly, its citizens, to weigh in on this matter.”

Christie then spoke about his state, New Jersey, “In my state of New Jersey, abortion is allowed up to nine months. I don't agree with that any more than I agree with banning abortion.”

At this point, Mika Brzezinski rolled her eyes at Christie and said, “It’s not about abortion at nine months, and there's no doctor that would do it, and it only happens in extremely severe circumstances.”

She continued, “You can come back and bring me evidence of women across the state of New Jersey having abortions in the ninth month. It's not happening, Chris. Come on.”

Christie tried to explain, “That’s what the law is” but Brzezinski didn’t back down, “You said this the last time you were on, and I let it go. I can't let it go again. There are no abortions in the ninth month.”

‘Morning Joe’ viewers have taken to social media to applaud and thank Mika Brzezinski for her conversation with Chris Christie on abortion laws.

“Good for Mika!” wrote one user and another said, “I loved seeing Mika say something! He tried it twice on her and she was like yeah nope.”

The internet continued to thank Brzezinski for speaking up on ‘Morning Joe’ as one user said, “Thank you Mika for confronting him.”
