'Morning Joe' host Joe Scarborough says people close to Trump told him the president was in 'mental decline'

According to 'Morning Joe' host Joe Scarborough, people close to real-estate mogul Donald Trump secretly told him during the 2016 election that the future president was in "mental decline."

The talk-show host's claims came just hours after Trump and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi hurled accusations at each other following a short and tense meeting at the White House.

Pelosi called for an "intervention" after the meeting with the president where she claimed Trump fumed about the Mueller investigation.

In response, Trump called the speaker "Crazy Nancy" before calling on those present in the meeting to testify how calm he was at the time, Daily Mail reports.

Later, the president tweeted a compilation of Pelosi's "STAMMERING" moments during her own press conference to imply that, in fact, it was her mental health that was on the decline.

"PELOSI STAMMERS THROUGH NEWS CONFERENCE," Trump wrote alongside the footage, which was taken from a Fox Business News segment, at around 9 pm last night.

Scarborough made a point on his morning MSNBC cable show to give his two cents on the contentious back and forth between the two figures, both of whom he has known for decades.

"We know what it's actually about. The president of course during the campaign, we've said it, people close to him told us that they feared he was in mental decline," Scarborough said. "People very close to him told us that they feared he was in pre-dementia, that he had changed."

"You watched Donald Trump in the late 1980s, you watch him even in the 90s, you watch him now, he is completely changed," said Scarborough opined. "I've known Nancy Pelosi and been working with her since 1994... I can tell you Nancy Pelosi is tougher today than she was 25 years ago," the former Republican congressman added.

Mika Brzezinski, his wife and co-host, agreed with Scarborough saying, "Sharp as a tack."

Scarborough continued: "The difference between Nancy and Donald, not even close. He knows he's slipping and so now they're... It's incredible, they're doctoring videos. The president is sending around doctored videos of the third-ranking constitutional officer of the United States of America. That's where we are."

"The president's always projecting," he concluded.

Pelosi has also accused the commander-in-chief of running a cover-up as she warned her own party members against going ahead with impeachment proceedings.

During the unusual White House press conference following his meeting with Pelosi and other democrats, Trump raised questions about Pelosi's own mental capacity. "I would say calmly as I was at the news conference," he said. "You had the group - Crying Chuck and Crazy Nancy."

"I'll tell you what, I've been watching her, and I have been watching her for a long period of time, she's not the same person. She's lost it," Trump continued. "I think she's got a lot of problems."

He continued his assault on the senior Democrat saying: "She was all crazy yesterday. She is a mess. Let's face it she doesn't understand. They sort of feel like she's disintegrating before their eyes."
