'Moonshiners' Season 9: Tickle and Tim return with hunt for still sites and ambitious experiments

'Moonshiners have passed on this art from generation to generation. Everybody in the world knows its illegal, but you know what? We don't care,' says Tickle.

Discovery Channel's controversial yet popular show 'Moonshiners' is back for another season. And this time around, the outlaws seem like they're ready for a challenge.

The show's stars Tickle and Tim meet with the Whitlock brothers Henry and Kenny in order to "rediscover their roots" and continue making what according to them is the finest of moonshine.

Back in Franklin County in Virginia — the moonshine capital of the world in Tickle's words — the moonshiners are hunting for a decent spot hidden deep inside the woods covered overhead with a canopy, a natural cover from law enforcement.

Tickle, now back from his brush with the law, cannot stay away from the moonshine business. "Moonshiners have passed on this art from generation to generation. Everybody in the world knows its illegal, but you know what? We don't care. These are our roots - the old ways, they're good ways. Hell no, you ain't never shuttin' us down," he says.

Meanwhile, in Sevier County, Mike and Daniel find the ideal spot for their still site — the only issue is that it is located atop a treacherous, steep hill and they must now face their biggest engineering challenge so far. They have to build a series of steps and bridges over half-a-mile distance to the flat protected area deep in the woods. "Mike and Daniel have doctorates in Redneck Engineering," chirped a fan.

But it is not an easy task as Daniel's back begins to act up and the injury sets them behind. This leads to a tiff between the two for Mike doesn't wish to be pulled back because of his partner. This puts their ambitious engineering project on hold.

At the same time, Mark and Digger, all the way in Cocke County, are faced with a new challenge: The duo is trying to reverse-engineer Popcorn Sutton's multi-grain whiskey. Popcorn Sutton's recipe is perhaps a decade ahead of its time and the duo stands to make a lot of money if their experiments are a success. So they begin their experiments with different quantities of grains till they finally perfect it.

And even as Josh is finalizing his subterranean still site and brings the big guns to the race, he also hurts his back. To add to his woes, the mud around his designated site is weak and endangers his project if set up there. Will he succeed in building his still site?

What is moonshine? It is high-proof distilled liquors that were, during the prohibition, produced illegally without government authorization. In the US, the liquor is clear, unaged whiskey that is brewed using corn or grains.

Fans have been very glad since the return of the show for its premiere. "I'm so happy to see my boys back," said a fan. Despite being in its Season 9, one of Discovery's most popular shows is still generating a new fan base. "I'm upset no one told me 'Moonshiners' was such an entertaining show." But above all, fans are simply excited to have their favorite moonshiners back on their screens. "Tickle saying 'ain't nothing illegal 'til you get caught' in his dissertation is hilarious being that he always gets caught... LOL," noted a fan, to which another concurred, "Love Tickle".

'Moonshiners' airs on Tuesdays at 9 pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel. You can watch the new season as well as the previous seasons on Discovery Go.
