Spoilers for 'Money Heist' Season 4 Episode 1

The previous season of ‘Money Heist concluded with the execution of DEFCON 2 by the gang members in response to Alicia Sierra's (Najwa Nimri) ultimate betrayal. Although Nairobi (Alba Flores) collapsed from a deadly shot to the chest, the gang needs to continue melting the 90 tonnes of gold in order to be able to get out of Bank of Spain alive.

The team of robbers needs to not only deal with the federal forces whose preparations are in full swing to take them down but also navigate issues among themselves as The Professor (Alvaro Morte) is yet to comprehend love and death as he continues to live with the impression that Lisbon (Raquel Murillo) was executed.

However, amidst the uncertainty surrounding Nairobi’s condition, who is battling for life, the heist sees trouble ensue between the members of the gang as Tokyo (Ursula Corbero) and Palmero (Rodrigo De la Serna) face a conflict of interest. While a crucial member of their team struggles between life and death, Tokyo and Palmero brawl over what’s best for Nairobi.

Although The Professor’s well-trained students are on the verge of losing everything they worked for, including another crucial member of their gang, their experience in dealing with the worst of scenarios and Palmero’s expertise in robbery planning still gives them a ray of hope.

But, the gang has bigger challenges to face as Tokyo and Palmero’s difference of opinion creates a rift, which sees Denver (Jaime Lorente) pointing a gun at his former lover when she refuses to stick to Palmero’s plan of not surrendering Nairobi to the police.

When Palmero sees his position in the gang being threatened, he chooses to out himself, which was met with minimal resistance from the rest of the gang members.

Palmero’s exit besides thwarting the gang’s plan also imposes a serious threat to their lives similar to the impact they faced when Tokyo exits the previous heist. Europol under the guidance of Sierra will leave no stone unturned to make sure Palmero gives away their master plan, should he surrender himself.

But, the need of the hour is Nairobi’s surgery and failing to do which the heist will go on a downward spiral, resulting in her death. Also, the heist would be like a plane without a pilot in Palmero’s absence, as he’s the brains behind the assault against the Bank of Spain. Even The Professor was aware of Palmero’s knowledge of the robbery engineering and has laid his trust in him despite his atrocious behavior which has irked the majority of the gang.

Will Palmero go by Tokyo’s orders for once owing to Nairobi’s condition? Should they continue fighting over their chase for the top position and will Nairobi survive without being operated on? We need to find out.

‘Money Heist’ Season 4 is available to stream on Netflix.
