'Modern Family' Season 11: Gloria has turned from a confident trophy wife to a self-conscious intern and fans can't stand it

What did 'Modern Family' creators intend to do with an extremely prideful Gloria by turning her into someone conscious about their age and mindless about things of little value

Television sitcom 'Modern Family' appears to be experimenting a lot with some of its characters in its last season, which marks the end of an era for one of the most-adored comedy series.

A couple of elements they explored in the current season is indicative of the creators' desperate need to re-define what they retained for over a decade.

Gloria Delgado Pritchett (Sofia Vergara) is one of the characters who has been subjected to unimaginable and also to a large extent unacceptable changes in the final season.

When 'Modern Family' first appeared on television, we were truly mesmerized by each of the rather atypical personalities the series offered. They all seemed to be well defined by their unique and eerie characteristics alike. However, it was the vivacious and feisty Gloria, who caught our attention the most.

Holding a strong pride in her Columbian origin, the fun-loving woman never budged an inch from who she was and always had her way around what she desired.

For 10 long seasons, not only did Gloria entertain us with her funny accent and unapologetic sense in fashion, but she also went on to become a favorite with fans for staying true to her identity.

However, consciously or unconsciously, we stopped relating to her as we approached the last season. Wondering why? Only because her character flipped in a way never expected.

While she was once a confident American trophy wife to Jay, she was later shown to be a vulnerable intern under Phil, which wasn't easy for fans to come to terms with.

What did 'Modern Family' creators intend to do with an extremely prideful Gloria by turning her into someone conscious about her age and mindless about things of little value?

For instance, in 'The Last Thanksgiving', Gloria was trying to guilt Claire into resuming her career, when she once took immense pleasure in spending her wealthy husband's money absolutely guilt-free!

We noticed a similar pattern in Luke's case as well. One fine day he wakes up to an idea which has the potential to establish his career when all along he struggled to eat cereals out of the bowl.

Since there are a couple more episodes to go until 'Modern Family' bids goodbye to television, we can remain patient for a little longer and see what awaits our favorite characters.
