‘Modern Family’ Season 11 Episode 9: Will Claire and Gloria’s latest beef further strain their relationship?

Gloria calls out Luke for hurting Manny and goes on to question Claire’s faulty parenting, blaming it as the reason for Luke’s behavior.

When the patriarch of ‘Modern Family’ first introduced his vivacious and feisty wife Gloria (Sofia Vergara ) to Claire (Julie Bowen), the latter had several reasons to dislike her step-mother. And the amount of attention Gloria garnered within the boundaries of the family intentionally or unintentionally, only made things worse for Claire.

The past ten seasons have clearly reflected Claire’s insecurities when it comes to Gloria. At times, she has found the Columbian beauty too intimidating to deal, and the rest of the time surprised herself by drooling over her father’s young wife’s glass-hour structure. Being as strong-headed as she has always been, Claire has plenty of times been vocal about her disinterest in Gloria’s way of living or inherited values. As ‘Modern Family’ Season 11 will soon be concluding, we were looking forward to seeing a ray of light in their dark relationship, but what we saw in the latest episode was exactly the opposite!

In the previous episode ‘Tree’s A Crowd’, Gloria asks Luke to help Manny patch up with Sherry, but he instead ends up kissing her and later even justifies his actions by revealing his true feelings for Sherry. When the entire family gets together for their last Christmas celebrations, Gloria calls out Luke for hurting Manny and goes on to question Claire’s faulty parenting, blaming it as the reason for Luke’s behavior.

She even points at Claire’s hookups from back in the day, saying how her side of the family has rejoiced in the ‘pleasure of flesh’. Claire loses her calm when Gloria wouldn’t stop and lashes out at her step-mother for letting Manny sleep by her side until he was 15. Mrs. Dunphy even defends Luke by encouraging his feelings for Sherry.

Although Manny and Luke work out their differences when uncle Cam locks them in a room saying he wouldn’t want to regret not chopping their balls if they don’t sort out their problems, none would dare involve in Gloria and Claire’s clashes.

Since their relationship is further strained from the recent events, they might be the first of the family members to part ways.
