Dominique Green: Mississippi mom's daughter, 2, killed in tornado while she gave birth to son
HUMPHREYS COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI: Dominique Green left her two-year-old daughter Aubrey in the care of her parents at their mobile home in Mississippi, as she made her way to the hospital to deliver her baby boy on Friday evening. Sadly, within 24 hours, she faced the devastating loss of her daughter while welcoming her newborn son into the world.
Green’s mother was also watching her three other grandchildren, eight-year-old Kaleb, seven-year-old Kelsey, and one-year-old Kensley while their mother, Jessica Drain, was at work. However, a powerful tornado soon hit the Silver City neighborhood, leaving a trail of destruction and killing at least 21 people in Mississippi alone.

'My son was bleeding out of his head'
When the tornado hit, all six children were inside the mobile home with their parents. It tore the mobile home apart, leaving nothing but debris. Aubrey died from the impact and Kaleb sustained a severe brain injury. He is on a ventilator in an intensive care unit, his mother said.
“They told me that my son was bleeding out of his head, he was laying there, he had a seizure, his eyes rolled to the back of his head,” Drain told CNN. “Pain, hurt, and frustration” was all she felt for not being able to reach her son or niece in time.
'There was nothing there'
The family did not know that a tornado was coming, according to Jessica’s aunt JoAnn Winston, who lives next to the mobile home. “I heard something like a train … my older son was saying ‘get down on the floor get down on the floor!’” she said. When she went to check on her sister’s mobile home, there was nothing there.
“I didn’t see no house, no nothing, and I looked around and I saw the baby laying a little bit far from her grandmother … the ambulance had her and were doing CPR on her,” she added. Aubrey was a happy child who loved to dance and was very sweet, Winston said.
Brett Adair, a meteorologist from Alabama, was on the scene when the tornadoes struck and told USA Today on Wednesday that he helped pull the boy from the rubble. Adair also said he watched the tornado tear through the city and "came in right behind it and tried to help." "We tried to help her (Aubrey), but she had lost too much blood I believe. ... Several were trying to administer CPR," he said.
Winston’s brother died from an apparent heart attack
The family found out on Sunday that Winston’s brother had died from an apparent heart attack unrelated to the storm. At present, the family will prepare for two funerals while waiting for little Kaleb to wake up. “I’m praying, I’m praying for the day, at night every hour every minute every second,” Drain said.
“They’re going to try to eventually wake him up to see what his brain does. They say they can’t tell right now because he’s sedated.” Drain has started a GoFundMe campaign to help cover Kaleb’s expenses.
Green’s sister, Jessica Drain, told the station that she was still in the hospital after giving birth to a healthy baby boy. The family is devastated by the loss of Aubrey and the severe injury sustained by Kaleb. Amidst the aftermath of the deadly tornado, the families are now grieving and praying for Kaleb's recovery.
