Missing 2-year-old Oregon boy found dead from gunshot wound 4 days after parents lost lives in murder-suicide
MEDFORD, OREGON: A missing boy from Oregon, whose parents died in an apparent murder-suicide while fleeing from cops, has been found dead with a gunshot wound. On July 28, cops confirmed that the body was of two-year-old Aiden Salcido, of Medford, Oregon.
His parents, Hannah Janiak and Daniel Salcido, lost their lives in a murder-suicide after they made a run from a traffic stop near Kalispell, Montana on July 24.
Reportedly, Salcido first shot his wife Janiak in the head and then turned the gun on himself. However, the couple's bodies were found in the car but their son's body was recovered from nearby woods, with a gunshot wound to the head, according to the Daily Mail.
The couple's 1996 GMC Jimmy with Oregon license plates was first stopped as police had felony burglary warrants for their arrest. Both gave false information about their identities which led to the officers spiking their tyres. As the vehicle came to a stop and officers approached it, the two were found dead. The child was not in the car then, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) said. With the help of witnesses, searchers found the little boy's body in the West Fisher Creek area.
The FBI also revealed that the couple had been investigated by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office for a burglary in 2018. Both were convicted and Janiak was supposed to start serving her sentence at the Jackson County Jail on June 11. However, she did not show up for her sentencing and felony warrants were issued for their arrest.
During the investigation, it was also found out that the family was homeless and would camp in Medford.
Janiak's financial records said the last activity was on June 3 and June 4, when the couple made purchases of camping equipment at a Walmart in Medford.
Their activity was also captured on surveillance video, in which the child was with his parents. A receipt was recovered in the car from the Kalispell Walmart dated July 24, the same day they died.
At the time of their death, the police said: "The Medford Police Department would like to express condolences to our local families of those involved, and we appreciate the cooperation that we received."
