With both Miss World and Miss Universe titles now with women of colour, fans are convinced black women are changing the beauty game
Toni-Ann Singh from Jamaica was crowned Miss World 2019 and people are rejoicing. Singh won the hearts of millions with her honesty and love for others. She also showcased her vocal skills that helped her to win the talent competition during the event.
She was vocal about her idea of people uplifting others to build a community that was loving and supportive of each other. "As we let our light shine, we unconsciously allow others to do the same," she said while adding that this was the motto that she lived by.
Just a couple of weeks before Miss World 2019, Miss Universe 2019 took place in which Zozibini Tunzi from South Africa won the title. Tunzi had been vocal about how beauty is constantly defined by others in terms of the skin color and her main motto was to break that and let everyone know that beauty comes from within and not through the color of the skin.
She highlighted the fact that while growing up she was told that she was not beautiful due to her skin color and added that she wanted to use the platform to let women like her know that their skin color did not define them. Fans fell in love with her words and now seeing that another woman of color has taken home the crown many are convinced that this year is the year of women of color.
One fan wrote, "Miss World and Miss Universe. Black, green and gold in both flags…AN ENTIRE MOOD." Some want this to repeat in the future as the comment read, "It was a clean sweep of black beauty this year and I’m f**king here for it! Plus Jamaica was Miss World? I’m elated."
Others thought it was the best way to end the year as the comment read, "Black women are the winners for both Miss World & Miss Universe. Love to see it. What a way to end the year."
