MESA, ARIZONA: A one-year-old girl, who was declared dead twice by medics after being pulled from a swimming pool, has miraculously shown signs of life.

Nicknamed Lillian Talboys, the youngster is fighting for her life in critical condition as she undergoes treatment at the Cardon Children's Medical Center in Arizona.

After responding to an emergency call at the girl's home in Mesa on December 20, fire and medical crew found family members had already pulled her from the water.

A GoFundMe page posted by relatives described how little Lillian slipped and fell in the pool while playing with three siblings in the backyard, although it is yet to be confirmed by officials how long she was in the water.

According to the site, her oldest brother heard screams while standing near the outside door and rushed to find the tot floating on her back in the pool.

The sibling immediately jumped into the water and pulled Lillian out, before smacking her on the back to try and resuscitate her. Lillian's mother immediately started CPR and chest compressions, but she was unresponsive.

The baby girl was rushed to a hospital, where doctors tried their best to bring her back to consciousness. However, she was pronounced dead.

Lillian's devastated mother told trauma staff she thought she still felt a faint heartbeat, prompting them to continue their efforts to revive her. Before 12 pm, she was pronounced dead for the second time.

But Lillian's mother still wouldn't take no for an answer. After the one-year-old was moved to a room to wait for a medical examiner, her mum insisted she could still feel a heartbeat and claimed she even felt Lilian grab her hand.

Medics tried to convince her that Lillian had died and these were simply residual brain impulses, but the determined mother continued to insist she was alive and ordered a CT scan instead.

The brave toddler was eventually revived around 3 am on December 21. She is now placed on a ventilator and has a steady heartbeat, although in critical condition.

Lilian's father recounted to KPHO how four of his children were playing around the pool when Lilian fell in while being chased by her brothers.

"She's fighting, fighting, fighting," the embattled father said.

Speaking to KPHO, Detective Jason Flam of the Mesa Police Department said there were "no suspicious circumstances". "It's just a very tragic incident," Flam noted.

The GoFundMe page, titled 'Baby Lillian, My Little Christmas Miracle' states she is currently hooked on to a "heart and lung bypass machine".

"She is still fighting sedation. It's day by day, hour by hour right now," the website reads. "We are in constant prayers to the Lord, in our hearts and minds, with gratitude and thanksgiving as we see this as a true Christmas miracle despite the obstacles surrounding her."
