Congresswoman Ilhan Omar's new husband, her campaign's chief fundraiser Tim Mynett, reportedly officiated his own marriage to the lawmaker, their marriage certificate states. The document lists Mynett as both the officiant and the bridegroom at the ceremony, according to the certificate obtained by the Daily Mail.

It is legal to conduct your own wedding ceremony in Washington D.C. Similar marriages are also permitted in states like Pennsylvania and Colorado. The outlet estimated that the total expense for the process would have been $45 — $35 for the license and $10 for the certificate.

Mynett married Omar Wednesday, March 11, three days after his 39th birthday, the certificate shows. The ceremony occurred at John Marshall Park next to the Moultrie Courthouse where the pair obtained their marriage license from.

The Minnesota Congresswoman took to Instagram on March 11 to publicly reveal the update of the couple's relationship. She shared a picture of hers with Mynett, showing their wedding rings. Omar captioned the picture, writing: "From partners in politics to life partners. So blessed." Omar's spokesperson reportedly confirmed that Mynett, a political consultant, converted to Islam before the wedding.

The marriage certificate shows Mynett listing the home he shared with his former wife Beth Jordan as his legal residence while Omar listed a house in Washington rather than the one in her congressional district in Minneapolis.

Paul Kamenar, an attorney for the National Legal and Policy Center, a group that has long questioned Omar’s campaign finances, commented on the update, saying: "Does this mean she has abandoned Minnesota to live in D.C? That seems very strange. You can only have one legal residence and that is the place where your driving license is registered, and where you are registered to vote among other things."

"Her constituents in Minnesota might be interested to note that she does not consider that as her legal residence anymore," Kamenar said.

Omar divorced her ex-husband Ahmed Hirsi in October amid rumors that she had an affair with the DC-based political consultant. Hirsi reportedly was determined to officially separate from Omar after it was revealed in a bombshell court filing that she had an affair with Mynett.
