'He tried to kill a mother': Outrage after GoFundMe allows page for dead gunman Andrew Sundberg
MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA: Andrew Tekle Sundberg was shot dead by Minneapolis police officials on July 14 after a 6-hour-long standoff at an apartment building in the Seward neighborhood where multiple shots were fired. Minneapolis police said that the incident started around 9:30 pm on Wednesday. The police responded after a woman called saying a man had fired a shot into her apartment on the 900 block of 21st Avenue South. As officers arrived on the scene, they heard more shots being fired.
Arabella Foss-Yarbrough, Sundberg's neighbor, was in her apartment with her two children. She then called 911 about the shooting which eventually led to the deadly stand-off. Foss-Yarbrough has previously argued with the protestors in support of Sundberg that it was not a 'George Floyd' situation as Sundberg was a man of potential threat. GoFundMe pages have since been set for both late Sundberg and Arabella Foss-Yarbrough. However, many people are furious at the fact that GoFundMe is letting people raise money for Sundberg. After Foss-Yarbrough called the police, they saved her and the kids. After Sundberg's death on Thursday, July 14, a GoFundMe was started the next day with a goal of $20,000. However, within three days, the campaign received $20,500 in donations, surpassing its goal.

Now, people are annoyed that how could the website allow a page for Sundberg who shot at a woman's apartment and was a threat, while hardworking bodega employee Jose Alba, who acted out in self-defense and was stabbed as well, got his page removed from the platform. Daily Mail had previously reported that the GoFundMe campaign for Alba had collected over $20,000 before it was taken down.
People are also angry at GoFundMe as it also banned any fundraising campaign for Kyle Rittenhouse's legal defense. The ban was later lifted when he was cleared of all the charges in November 2021.
The GoFundMe page for Sundberg read, "His life was taken too soon by the Minneapolis Police Department." It described Sundberg as a "brother, uncle, son, friend, talented artist, hilarious, energetic human." On the other hand, Foss-Yarbrough's GoFundMe page, set up by her sister, had collected more than $56,000 by Monday evening, while the goal was set only at $10,000.
People outrage as GoFundMe allows Sunderg's campaign
One user wrote, "The GoFundMe for shooter Andrew Sundberg now has over $15K - out raising his victim, a single mother who hid with her two sons in her bedroom as he shot bullets through the walls of her apartment. Two Minneapolis police snipers shot Sundberg after a multi-hour standoff."
Another user said, "Please remove the GoFundMe for Tekle-Sundberg. I thought you don't support criminals. This man tried to kill a mother in her home, resisted arrest, and was shot by police. But that campaign left all of that out. I'm not the only one asking for this to be closed."
