Minneapolis man who raped his disabled twin daughters, impregnating one of them twice, jailed for 30 years
A Minneapolis man who previously pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree assault, one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of endangering a child for sexually abusing his developmentally disabled twin daughters over the course of several years was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
According to the Daily Mail, Hennepin County Judge Fred Karasov sentenced 52-year-old Jerry Lee Curry to three decades behind bars for his crimes against the twins, who are now adults, while they were still teenagers, as well as endangering a third daughter, who is still a juvenile.
In a victim impact statement, one of the twins wrote that Curry had "hurt, used, and abused the whole family" and that she hoped the 52-year-old would spend the rest of his life behind bars. "I hope he never gets out of jail," the statement read. "He destroyed our family."
The twins' plight came to light after one of them had run away from their father's south Minneapolis home in May 2017 and revealed the abuse she had suffered at his hands to workers at a shelter. In a protective order granted by a judge against Curry, she wrote about how she did not have enough food and was "chained to the door and the bed every day."
One of the twins said she was sometimes chained while she was naked and then made to lie in pools of her feces and urine, MEAWW previously reported. A criminal complaint stated the chains were so tight, it nearly resulted in the teen losing both her legs to gangrene.
Curry also fathered two children by one of the twins, who is said to have suffered from a "mild to moderate" level of intellectual disability. The twin said Curry "routinely raped" her, including with fists, bats, and brooms, when her mother was not home.
The twins were also regularly beaten with bats and paddles, with one of the teens losing vision in her left eye after she was stomped on the head by Curry. A medical examination concluded she had suffered injuries that were "clinically diagnostic of torture."
Before his sentencing, Curry apologized to his daughters, saying, "I'm sorry for what happened with my daughters. God forgives me. I hope they can forgive me one day." However, Karasov dismissed the statements, stating they were "hollow."
The 52-year-old's attorneys said their client decided to plead guilty and take a plea deal to spare his daughters the trauma of having to testify at a trial. The deal saw six counts against Curry, including stalking and abuse of a vulnerable adult, dismissed.
It also meant he will be eligible for parole after serving two-thirds of his sentence, which also includes 10 years of conditional release and requires him to register as a predatory sex offender for a decade.
The Mail reported that the twins' mother, Sheila Wilson, had similarly pleaded guilty to a charge of felony criminal neglect last year and that she is scheduled to be sentenced in March.
