Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo was named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year on August 25 for the 2019-20 season. With this, Antetokounmpo, who was the MVP of the 2018-19 NBA season, becomes the fifth player to win DPOY and MVP in his career along with Michael Jordan, David Robinson, Kevin Garnett and Hakeem Olajuwon.

According to ESPN, Antetokounmpo won with a great margin as he earned 42 points from a panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters. He had 75 first-place votes followed by Lakers star Anthony Davis with 200 points and Jazz's Rudy Gobert (187). And while that might have been good news for the Bucks fans, it wasn't taken well by most other teams' fans who took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Antetokounmpo's win.

"Why does the media vote for award races anyways they don't have to guard play these guys night in night out," wrote one of the fans.

"Damn so Giannis gonna be the 3rd player to win both mvp and dpoy in the same season along with MJ and Hakeem. Lebron should have been the 3rd but he got robbed by Marc Gasol who won it but didn't even make 1st team all defense," opined one of the fans.

Some fans felt, 76ers, Ben Simmons deserved the award over the Bucks man. "I honestly believe Ben was the DPOY this season guards best player at all 5 positions guarded most all stars by minutes played by a mile lead league in steals deflections & top 3 in loose ball gets but like all NBA awards u need a year to be noticed before a chance of winning it."

And the opinions continued. "I’m not even a Big Ben Simmons fan but the guy guards all five positions, led the league in steals and is a legit stopper on the ball. This was a pander award," a fan remarked.

The 25-year-old Greek player is averaging 13.6 rebounds and one steal and block every 30 minutes, as per ESPN's report. Much of the Lakers fans felt Davis was robbed of the awards, but those who watched Antetokounmpo play felt it wasn't a bad call. "As he should, anyone who disagrees didn’t watch Giannis play this year and probably thinks Lebron should be MVP as well."
