As Americans were still waiting to hear the election results in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, President Donald Trump took the opportunity to address the public from the White House. In his speech, Trump boldly claimed "victory", while the votes continued to be counted. Although Trump seemed convinced about his landslide win, he still wanted to play it a bit safe, so he announced that he would be asking the Supreme Court to stop counting the votes, while several ballots continued to remain untallied.

"Millions of people voted for us tonight. A very sad group of people is trying to disenfranchise that group of people,” Trump said in his speech. He then added, “And we won’t stand for it. Frankly, we did win this election,” Trump declared to his fans. Once he was done with his scathing speech, Trump invited Mike Pence, his running mate/ Vice President onto the podium to share a few words with the crowd.

Pence hesitated for a moment before slowly making his way to the podium. He then kicked off his speech by carefully declaring that they were on "road to victory", unlike Trump announcing that they were already winners. Pence slowly began contradicting Trump's speech with his own, when he stated that the votes would be continued to be counted, as opposed to Trump who decided on asking the SCOTUS to stop counting the votes.

When internet users realized that Pence, who usually agrees with everything Trump has to say was contradicting him, they were pleasantly surprised. A user tweeted, "Wow. Mike Pence actually contradicted Trump. Never thought I’d see that." "Interesting that Pence didn’t back him up, and specifically referred to votes continuing to be counted," wrote another fan.

Many users also began expressing pity towards Pence for having to contradict Trump in public. A user commented, "I low key (just for that moment during speech) feel bad for pence. I said it! #anxiety #Election2020 #ElectionDay #TrumpIsALaughingStock." Another user expressed, "Mike Pence was objective and didn't backup Trump's false claims to victory. I kind of pity him as he, just like Melania, is tied to the apron strings of a barefaced psychopathic liar like Trump." "I legit had a sliver of pity for Pence in that moment. He just had to publicly countermand his boss on national television. The feeling passed of course, but for a second there I feared the retaliation he would face tomorrow," revealed another user.
