According to Jarrett's memoir, the former first lady had demanded that Barack Obama do the grocery shopping because she set very clear divisions of labor in the house.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama reportedly attempted to dissuade husband Barack Obama from running for the Senate office, according to her close friend Valerie Jarrett's new memoir. The new book reveals that Michelle had clearly communicated her expectations of the former president early on in their marriage.

According to the memoir, the former first lady had also once persuaded 62-year-old Valerie to host a brunch with all their friends and talk her husband out of running for political office. Valerie's upcoming book, 'Finding My Voice: My Journey to the West Wing and the Path Forward', states that Michelle was "direct in saying, 'This is what I expect. This is what I need'," adding that if Barack did not do what she needed, she held him accountable for it, the Daily Mail reported.
