As Tokyo Olympics 2020 draws to an end, all eyes are on athletes competing in the finals of track-and-field events. Middle-distance sprinter Michael Cherry will be competing for gold in the Men's 400-meter Finals. Viewers across the country are eager to witness his face-off with another Team USA athlete Michael Norman. It remains to be seen whether the 26-year-old can beat the other contestants to bag the gold medal.

On August 6, Cherry will also participate in the Heats for the Men's 4X400 m relay. This is the first time the runner from Chesapeake has qualified for the Olympics and he has stunned everyone by earning a ticket to the medal round. Cherry's most notable success in recent times includes gold in the 2019 4 x 400-meter relay and 4 x 400 meter mixed relay at the World Championship. In his career, he has bagged two gold medals and three silvers. The powerhouse athlete has been coached by iconic sprinter John Smith. Born on March 23, 1995, to Michael Cherry (Sr.) and Tanya Blackwell, Michael Cherry hails from Chesapeake, a city in Virginia. He has two older siblings, brother William and sister Tantania. He attended the Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake and graduated in 2013 as an honor roll student. Later, Cherry joined Louisiana State University with Social Science. 

At the University level, he has been one of the most decorated 400-meter runners in history. According to the LSU roster, Cherry was crowned an NCAA champion twice and earned seven honors in All-American Games in two seasons. The 6'4" athlete is a brand ambassador for Nike, but unknown to many, he is also a designer himself. In fact, Cherry loves to design clothes and shoes in his free time. He even has a label dedicated to his merchandise.
