What is 'Mercury retrograde' phenomenon? Here's how it will really impact our lives
What impact does planet movement have on us is one question that has been repeatedly asked by people, especially when it comes to what is known as the ‘Mercury retrograde’ phenomenon. It is generally said that when you’re going through a bumpy ride in your life, you can blame it on the ‘Mercury retrograde’ effect. So what does it really mean, then? Well, it is a period when the planet Mercury enters retrograde motion and it seems that it is moving backward in the sky. Of course, that’s not the case, and it is due to its elliptical orbit around the Sun, just like earth that gives us that impression.
This phenomenon can be witnessed multiple times throughout a calendar year, which includes the final rotation of this year’s cycle, beginning Wednesday, December 28. "When Mercury is moving forward, in its natural motion, communications go generally easily. Though when Mercury goes out of its natural orbit, say in retrograde, there tend to be all sorts of wires crossed and miscommunications," said Astrologer Rebecca Gordon, while explaining the ‘negative stigma’ associated with ‘Mercury retrograde’ since it significantly impacts ‘communication’ aspect of our lives.

Astrology is usually considered rudimentary, and old-school by contemporary and intellectual individuals. However, different astrology pundits have different takes on its impact. "It's millions of miles away from us. So, millions of miles and a very small rock is not going to impact you, your body, and your world. It's too far. It doesn't exert a gravitational force on you physically at a level that could do anything to you," believes astrophysicist Jackie Flaherty. Nevertheless, he shares his advice with people who think that Mercury’s movement is the reason behind their chaotic life, "My advice is that if you take things a little slower during the retrograde, things will be a lot easier.”
She again emphasized that individuals should hold themselves responsible for the consequences they have to face in their lives, "I do want people to understand the science. I want them to really get the concepts of it and then at the end of that lesson, if you still wanna walk away and make the decision about what you think is impacting you, okay. But have the science first," according to CBS News.
In an unrelated story, astronomers have found a ‘special’ system with multiple planets that are locked in an unusual rhythm around their central star, called TOI-178. The planetary system boasts of six exoplanets, but the ones closest to the star are locked in the rare ‘rhythmic dance’ while they move in their orbits, reports MEAWW.
