Melania Trump's White House Christmas decor mocked for being creepy as hell: 'It's like a scene in the horror movie The Shining'
It seems like First Lady Melania Trump cannot get it right when it comes to decorating the White House for the Christmas holidays.
While last year, the mother-of-one was trolled on social media for her “blood red trees” which were slammed as "eerie" and "creepy," even reminding many of a gory episode from the 'Game Of Thrones' titled, 'The Red Wedding,' this year’s theme of the decorations - originally meant to be the “Spirit of America" - reminded critics of the 1980 horror movie 'The Shining,' based on the Stephen King novel.
The reference was especially drawn up by a number of users after Melania tweeted a video giving a tour of the White House Christmas decorations and captioned it, “The Spirit of America” is shining in the @WhiteHouse! I am delighted to share this beautiful exhibit of patriotism for all to see, and excited for everyone to experience the beauty of the #Christmas season!"
In keeping with the theme, the patriotic colors of red and blue had been incorporated into the traditional holiday green while planning the decorations. The traditional gingerbread White House has been put up, which shared the stage with figures of American landmarks including the Statue of Liberty and Golden Gate Bridge.
Every room had been decked up differently, although the running theme in the decor was apparent.
The East Colonnade of the White House was lined with double rows of see-through panels etched with more than 60 examples of American design, innovation and architecture, ranging from the Woolworth Building in New York City to the Space Needle in Seattle.
The Blue Room had a towering tree, an 18 and a half-foot Douglas fir from a Pennsylvania farm, decorated with flowers representing every state and territory while the Red Room contained games, including trees made of White House playing cards which bore President Donald Trump and first lady’s signatures.
Although the decorations were supposed to remind visitors of Melania's "Be Best" campaign that promotes kindness, respect and teamwork, many people on social media were less-than-impressed.
"This is like a cross between a Lexus December to Remember commercial and a trailer for The Shining," one user wrote, while another joked, pointing out, "There is even a The Shining-like cameo from two random people dressed like either chefs or grand wizards."
Yet a third wrote, "It’s hard to make Christmas decorations look cold & unhappy but they succeeded."
