Melania Trump called for national unity following the Capitol riots on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. As per an ABC news report, Melania cast herself as a victim instead of taking responsibility for Donald Trump's act of stirring up his supporters. Her comments saw Twitter slamming her. "I am disappointed and disheartened with what happened last week,” she wrote in the belated statement, posted on the White House website Monday morning.

The statement said, “I find it shameful that surrounding these tragic events there has been salacious gossip, unwarranted personal attacks, and false misleading accusations on me – from people who are looking to be relevant and have an agenda." She also added: "This time is solely about healing our country and its citizens. It should not be used for personal gain.

Taking to Twitter, netizens had their share of opinions. "Melania, instead of writing a letter and on the fifth paragraph making yourself the victim. While your husband incited this chaos. Why don’t you sit down with your husband and plea with him to stop telling lies to base and it’s time to go home. The country will appreciate you," read one of the tweets. "People have to stop fantasizing that Melania is some kind of victim trapped in the Trump marriage. Melania IS the Eva Braun to Trump’s Hitler," one of the comments said.

This was seconded by another, who opined: "Melania Trump honors dead pro-Trump rioters and then absurdly claims she's the victim, attempting the ole widely used Nazi propaganda ploy of spinning the victim."

Melania also expressed her condolences to the Capitol officer who died in the attack. "My heart goes out to: Air Force Veteran, Ashli Babbit, Benjamin Philips, Kevin Greeson, Rosanne Boyland, and Capitol Police Officers, Brian Sicknick and Howard Liebengood," Melania Trump said. "I pray for their families' comfort and strength during this difficult time."

"I absolutely condemn the violence that has occurred on our Nation’s Capitol," she said. "I implore people to stop the violence, never make assumptions based on the color of a person’s skin or use differing political ideologies as a basis for aggression and viciousness. We must listen to one another, focus on what unites us, and rise above what divides us," she added.

The flak continued to pour in. "Melania is a victim...she does not know the meaning of the word. #MelaniaTrumpVictim," one of the netizens remarked. "Melania who? Oh yes, the true victim of the Capital riot that took the life of 6 Americans, and was a direct assault on our lawmakers and government. Of all the disgusting things she's done in her life, this has to rank near the top. May she RIP in plastic surgery heaven," read one of the tweets.
