Melania Trump FINALLY addresses coronavirus pandemic, gets flak for delayed response: 'Y’all screwed this up'
First lady Melania Trump has finally addressed the issue of coronavirus that has been declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization. After staying mum on the widespread virus for weeks, she finally broke her silence on Twitter on Wednesday, March 11, drawing a lot of flak from angry social media users.
"Our great country is fighting hard against the #Coronavirus. This nation is strong & ready & we will overcome. Please take action to prevent further spread. Visit http://cdc.gov for updated health info & updates," she tweeted linking the website for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The delay in response from the first lady regarding the coronavirus infuriated a number of people, who voiced out their displeasure in the comments section.
"If you care at all about the well being of the people your husband serves. Then tell him we need more testing for the virus. 8 test conducted by CDC in one day is not enough. We need accurate testing. Be your best and do what is right. Demand covid-19 test be made available now," one wrote, while another one said, "Your husband’s COMPLETE INCOMPETENCE is making this even more of a disaster. You aren’t helping."
A third user reminded Melania that President Trump had called the virus a "hoax" cooked up by the Democrats. "Where was this weeks ago? All I heard was blaming Democrats. Testing is needed and we are behind the 8 ball. The blame rests squarely on trumps," the user commented.
Amid coronavirus outbreak, which has spread to 28 states in the US so far and killed 38 people, Melania took to Twitter last week to share an update about the construction of the private tennis pavilion on the South Lawn of the White House, supervised by her, which would serve as a "place to gather and spend leisure time for First Families."
Many social media users at the time thought that the tweet was tone-deaf, given the current situation of the nation. However, after receiving backlash for her post at the time, the first lady clapped back at the haters through another tweet.
"I encourage everyone who chooses to be negative (and) question my work at the @WhiteHouse to take time and contribute something good (and) productive in their own communities," she wrote over the weekend.
Alluding to that tweet, one user comment below her latest tweet: "Y’all screwed this up, you were building tennis courts and playing golf when it should have been all hands on deck, this is on Trump, you and the administration."
