Melania backs Trump for 'speaking directly' to Americans via Twitter, Internet says 'Be Best at gaslighting'

In her first solo campaign event of 2020, First Lady Melania Trump touted her husband, President Donald Trump's presence on social media and his relentless tweeting as something commendable. She also attacked Democratibc nominee Joe Biden and the liberals for allegedly politicizing the pandemic.

"For the first time in history the citizens of this country get to hear directly and instantly from their President every single day through social media," she said at a Make America Great event Tuesday, October 27, afternoon in Atglen, Pennsylvania. "I do not always agree with the way he says things, but it is important to him that he speaks directly to the people he serves." Needless to say, shortly after her speech, she became the subject of mockery on social media as many Internet users pointed out that Trump's often demeaning and attacking tweets were antithetical to the message the FLOTUS championed through her "Be Best" campaign.

"Oh look: anti-bullying lady makes a joke about how her husband is a bully. Please reporters, cover BeBest for the absolute crock it is. And never forget @flotus is a birther," one user wrote, while another said, "There is no defensible reason to give Melania any airtime or social media space. She knew POUTS was a charlatan when she married him. He'd already arranged a fraudulent work visa for her, after she had worked illegally. Why should we listen to criminals tell us how to behave?" A third commented, "Just sayin'... She just said Americans get to hear everyday from their 'dear President.'"

Someone else wrote, "That was Hitler's central tenet: to speak directly to the people he served. People need to read Mein Kampf, this was exactly the Hitler plan. Destroy the press and have a direct communication (propaganda) to the people. Melania is basically amplifying Mein Kampf." Another person said, "Be best at gaslighting." One person opined, "If Trump wants to speak directly to the people he serves, he doesn’t need Twitter. I’m pretty sure the White House has a direct line to Putin." And the next remarked, "Lordy ! Seriously - Dear Lord , the hypocrisy . They can’t really believe it , can they ? Surely they just roll their eyes at the naïveté of their followers."

In the same event, Melania insisted that Biden would not be able to handle the response to the pandemic as well as her husband did. "Now he suggests that he could have done a better job. Well, the American people can look at Joe Biden's 36 years in Congress and eight years in the vice presidency and determine whether they think he'll finally be able to get something done for the American people."

She also talked about a number of members of her family, including herself, being infected and successfully recovering from the virus. "Like many of you, I have experienced the firsthand effects of Covid-19 -- not only as a patient -- but as a worried mother and wife. I know there are many people who have lost loved ones or know people who have been forever impacted by this silent enemy," Melania said.
