Meghan McCain makes it pretty clear she’s voting for Biden not Trump: ‘He shepherded me through grief process’
For the first time in her life, there is a possibility that Meghan McCain, a lifelong conservative and the daughter of late GOP senator John McCain, might vote for a Democratic candidate in the upcoming election in November.
Meghan made the revelation on the April 22 episode of 'Watch What Happens Live' with Andy Cohen. Although she did not give a definitive “yes or no” she said that it “doesn’t take a rocket scientist” to know she was not backing President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential race. Moreover, presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden was best friends with her dad when the latter was alive and still maintains a close relationship with the McCain family.
On the other hand, in 2015, Trump said that he did not consider Senator McCain - a Vietnam veteran - a war hero, because "I like people who weren’t captured.” Before going into politics, John spent five and a half years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.
Even after the senator's death in August 2018, POTUS continued to bash him in the media. He called him a “disgrace” for voting against repealing and replacing Obamacare. In March 2019, Trump complained that the McCain family didn’t thank him for “allowing” the senator's funeral to be held at the Washington National Cathedral.
"So I just had a really long conversation with [Biden] a few days ago,” Meghan said. “I love him dearly. I keep telling everyone, I promise you will know who I’m voting for, but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that there’s one man who has made my life pain and a living hell. And there’s another man who has literally shepherded me through the grief process. It’s not rocket science.”
Meghan added that she believed Biden had what it takes to “tamp down fear” in the country “instead of making it worse.” Nevertheless, the 'The View' co-host has said in the past that voting Republican was the only choice for her.
Next, when Andy asked Meghan if she believed her mother, Cindy McCain, would also opt for voting for Biden, she refrained from confirming anything but hinted that it was possible.
“It’s really tough, because my parents met and ended up getting married in part because of [the Bidens],” Meghan said. “They were in Hawaii at the same time, got drunk on ouzo together and danced. They’re old, old friends. And again, he’s just been so integral, especially since my dad got sick. I’m always putting my heart over my head in some ways. And the Trumps, they’re always making my mom cry. I just think that politics is personal, and I think character is really important in this moment.”
Biden also delivered a moving speech at Senator McCain's funeral. “My name is Joe Biden. I’m a Democrat. And I loved John McCain. The way I look at it, they way I thought about it — I always thought of John as a brother," he said, Hollywood Life reported.
Fighting back tears, he added that despite their political differences, they fought “like family,” and didn’t let their politics get in the way of their friendship.
