Meghan Markle, Harry trolled for Vax Live appeal for donations in son Archie's name: 'Robin Hood in reverse'
Harry and Meghan Markle, as campaign chairs of Vax Live, took part in the event broadcasted on May 8. The event, organized by Global Citizen, was hosted by Selena Gomez to raise funds for Covid-19 vaccination does. Harry appeared on the event broadcast and gave a short speech.
The event raised a total of $302 million, which will reportedly be used to procure over 26 million Covid-19 vaccine doses. By funding vaccine doses, the initiative aimed to provide 'equitable vaccine access' across the world.

Harry and Meghan asked their followers to donate to Gavi, which is a Vaccine Alliance, and they hoped they would do so to 'honor' Archie's birthday week. Their statement said, "Join us in advocating for vaccine equity on Archie’s birthday," they wrote on Archewell website where they also explained how a donation of $5 dollars would be matched by organizations supporting the appeal to become $20. This would cover the purchase of four vaccines.
They said, "We cannot think of a more resonant way to honor our son’s birthday. If we all show up, with compassion for those we both know and don’t know, we can have a profound impact."
Critics have however raised questions about how the Duke and the Duchess have not announced any personal donation as of now. Many people on social media platforms like Twitter have called this 'crass'.
One Twitter user said, "So the obscenely wealthy Markles are today telling their very poor, illiterate fan base to celebrate the birthday of their fabulously privileged child (whose privacy they exploit at every opportunity) by donating dollars for vaccines that are a governmental responsibility. Nice." To this, another user responded, "I find it to be very crass. Using their child to beg for cash."

Another user wrote, "This has really upset me. You can tell that the majority of H & M's fans probably aren't rolling in money just by the way they write. A couple of them even call the little boy King Archie. This is just awful. It's like Robin Hood in reverse. Blatant exploitation." Another person responded to this and said, "Well, you don’t expect her to have principles do you, she is only interested in one thing and that is Duchess Megan."
