Piers Morgan rips into Meghan Markle and Prince Harry for snubbing Queen's Christmas celebrations: 'Stop behaving like whiny brats'
British journalist and TV host Piers Morgan, on Thursday, November 14, lashed out at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, over recent reports of the couple not attending the Queen’s traditional family Christmas celebration.
Morgan said their unprecedented decision has "ignited another firestorm of negative headlines," adding that the royal couple will see these news pieces with the same "blind, indignant fury they view any unfavorable media coverage."
Morgan's statement comes days after Meghan, in an ITV documentary, mentioned the hardships of being under media scrutiny after marrying into the royal family.
The Sussexes, last month, held a conference slamming negative tabloid coverage they've been receiving and also filed a lawsuit against the Daily Mail for releasing personal details of Meghan's letter to her father.
"Harry and Meghan don’t just dislike being criticized, they don’t believe they SHOULD be criticized," Morgan wrote in an article published by the same outlet. "Barely a week goes by now without them filing lawsuits attacking press freedom, weeping TV tears about the dreadful intrusion they have to endure, or firing off angry directives to newspapers. And if anyone does dare to criticize them, they are instantly branded a ‘bully’ or ‘racist’."
The 'Good Morning Britain' television host called the royal couple "full-time professional victims," suggesting that they want the world to know that they are being attacked by the media.
"Yet, increasingly, I fear the world is looking on at the royal family’s most self-absorbed and entitled couple and thinking: ‘Oh get a bloody grip.’ It is perfectly true that Harry and Meghan have received a lot of criticism this year, after enjoying relentless praise during their engagement and marriage. But it’s also true that they have brought it all on themselves," Morgan said.
He then went on to list a range of issues through the year that plagued the Sussexes, including Markle's baby shower in New York, the pair wanting to keep their son Archie's christening private while using "taxpayer money refurbishing their luxury home Frogmore Cottage in Windsor."
"First, back in February, Meghan presented prostitutes with horribly patronizing and inappropriate ‘empowering’ bananas carrying hand-written messages like ‘You are strong’. Then came her absurdly over-the-top $500,000 celebrity-fuelled baby shower in New York, which took place at the exact same time as she and Harry posted a tweet demanding we all do more to combat poverty," he said. "When their baby Archie arrived in May, they acted in a ridiculously secretive way, hiding even basic details of their newborn son’s birth and refusing to do the normal hospital doorstep press photo. All this while they were merrily spending $3 million of taxpayer money refurbishing their luxury home Frogmore Cottage in Windsor."
The television host went on to say that the media has praised the couple whenever they've behaved like proper royals, and has "rightly castigated" them whenever they've behaved like "jumped-up whiny spoiled hypocritical celebrity brats." He added that they have mostly been the latter throughout 2019.
Morgan, in his piece, advised the Sussexes to stop complaining. "Remember who pays for your lavish royal lifestyle and do your damn duty—starting by reversing your decision to snub the Queen at Christmas," he wrote.
