Meghan Markle and Kate ‘talked and texted regularly’ till Archie's birth but didn't even make eye contact later
The Sussex vs Cambridge feud still remains a matter of talk, following Meghan Markle's tell-all with Oprah Winfrey.
During the CBS interview last month, many pointed out how Kate Middleton was first in the firing line, as her sister-in-law claimed that feud between them dating back to 2018 over a dress-fitting incident was inaccurately reported and it was her who was had left in tears. But the seeming bitterness wasn't always the case, as Meghan’s biographer spoke about how well the ladies got along.

'They have more in common'
The former 'Suits' star’s claims about her relationship with Kate differs from what her biographer said about how close the ladies were for a while. Journalist Carolyn Durand, who has co-authored 'Finding Freedom' with Meghan's biographer Omid Scobie told Hello! Magazine: “Kate was a great source of support to Meghan in the days leading up to Archie’s birth and, despite reports of a rift, they are family and have a really lovely friendship."
“Their relationship has constantly evolved over time and they have become closer since Meghan’s wedding," Durand said, in remarks made in July 2019, just months before the Sussexes announced their intention to step away from 'the Firm'. “They talk and text regularly, they have more in common and Kate has wanted to make sure Meghan has felt welcomed to the family.” Another source also told People: “There is a sense of their relationship strengthening. They’re each a little more relaxed. They have more in common now.” Meghan and Kate were also pictured together with their children supporting their husbands at a polo match around the time of Durand’s comments, reported the Express.
What did Meghan say about Kate?
During the interview, when Oprah asked Meghan if the reports were true that she made Kate cry, Meghan denied it saying "the reverse happened". She added: "And I don’t say that to be disparaging to anyone… It was a really hard week of the wedding and she was upset about something but she owned it and she apologized and she bought me flowers, and a note apologizing.”
Meghan also said that she was surprised when reports said that Kate was the one in tears. Sharing details of the incident, Meghan claimed, “A few days before the wedding, [Kate] was upset about something pertaining — yes, the issue was correct about flower girl dresses, and it made me cry and it really hurt my feelings. And I thought in the context of everything else that was going on in those days leading to the wedding that it didn’t make sense to not be just doing what everyone else was doing, which was try to be supportive knowing what was going on with my dad and whatnot.”
On being asked about all the friendly photos of them together taken over the years, Meghan told Oprah that in the royal family things are “nothing like what it looks like.”
Durand went back on her comments
A year later, however, Durand took a 360-degree turn to claim the opposite in 'Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of A Modern Royal Family'. In the book, the authors wrote that the duchesses had “little in common other than the fact that they lived at Kensington Palace” and that they “struggled to move past distant politeness.” The book also read: “Though it was not necessarily her responsibility, Kate did little to bridge the divide.”
Scobie stated that the Team Kate vs Team Meghan feud crept deep into the Firm. “It was only last year that someone at the Palace told me that I picked my corner and now I have to stay in it,” he stated in a report by the Express. Detailing the fallout between the Sussexes and the Cambridges, the writers claimed “although Meghan tried to make eye contact with Kate” at her final royal engagement, “the Duchess barely acknowledged her.” “To purposefully snub your sister-in-law… I don’t think it left a great taste in the couple’s mouths," Scobie said.
Royal fans may never know the truth for sure, though. It is unlikely that Kate will ever speak out about their relationship and share her side of the story.
