Meghan Markle's brother says 'cursed' name made him lose jobs and become homeless: 'It nearly destroyed me'
Just a week after Meghan Markle's father slammed her for seemingly "insulting" the Queen through the couple's response to the British monarch banning them from using the word "royal" in any of their future brand names, the Duchess of Sussex's brother has spoken up about how his familial ties to her "nearly destroyed" his life.
Thomas Markle Jr., 53, told New Idea in a recent interview that he blamed Meghan for the fact that he became homeless at one point, lost jobs and battled with depression. “Being associated with Meghan has nearly destroyed me," he told the outlet.
Thomas has changed his name a number of times in the recent past in order to escape the notoriety of being related to the duchess but had no such luck. He currently goes by the name Glazier Tom in order to get rid of the "curse."
2019 was quite an eventful year for him. He admitted to having an alcohol problem and was arrested on domestic violence charges after threatening his partner. Thomas said he was unable to land a new job after losing his old one because of his surname. He also battled with depression.
“I am homeless and could have been under a bridge with a cardboard sign begging for money but thankfully my mum has taken me in," he said. He is currently staying with his mother Roslyn at her small apartment in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
According to him, Meghan could have easily helped him out with his failed career and a place to live but she never lifted a finger to pull strings. “Meghan could have helped me or got someone else at the palace to do so," he said.
He also had some view on "Megxit."
“With everything going on currently, with them leaving the palace and doing things for money, it makes them hypocrites because we, the family, have all been blamed for making money and now they’re doing the same thing. The only difference is, we’re all broke," he said.
