Queen ‘last to know’ of Meghan, Harry’s Netflix deal, will be subject to discussion by palace, say sources
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry allegedly failed to inform the Queen about their $150 million deal with Netflix, sources have claimed. They also state that the Queen learned about the same from her “aides”.
A source told Fabulous, “Harry did not inform the Queen about the Netflix deal” almost worth $150 million and Her Majesty, 94, was told the news by her “aides,” according to The Sun. They further added, “Her Majesty is all too aware of the pitfalls of when senior royals embark on lucrative projects - Prince Edwards’ production flop and some of the deals Sarah Ferguson has signed over the years to name a few.”
The sources have claimed that the “Royals are not for sale and dangers surrounds high profile roles outside the institution itself.” They have further noted that the Queen knows that the chances of talking Harry and Meghan out of their latest deal are little. It is being said that the royal officials “will examine the pair's deal” after it has been approved as any plan with the commercial link is “subject to discussion”, despite the Duke and Duchess of Sussex ditching their Royal duties.
The production company founded by Meghan and Harry on Wednesday, September 2, is said to make programs ranging from documentaries to children programs with some of the content centering on “mental health”.
Talks about the couple’s commercial deal have given rise to questions surrounding its impact on the taxpayers, as Meghan and Harry are yet to pay off the £2.4 million ($3.2 million) spent on refurbishing Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. A source told Mirror, “Harry and Meghan did leave as working members of the family with everyone's best wishes and it is sincerely hoped they find the happiness that appeared to be lacking in their lives. However, it goes without saying any deals they are making will be scrutinized by the royal household”. “Under the terms of their deal to forgo their royal duties, they agreed any commercial deals would be subject to discussion,” they added further.
Meanwhile, Royal commentator Duncan Larcombe has said that Her Majesty is “ likely to be concerned about what the Netflix deal will really look like,” reports The Sun. His statement read, "The Netflix deal represents a significant move for Harry and Meghan. It would make them far more independent and allows them to cut their ties to the Royal family even further. The suggestion that the Queen was effectively the last to know is astonishing.”
Duncan said that people will question if the deal was Meghan’s plan all along. “Marry a Royal, and boost your Hollywood clout beyond your wildest dreams. Personally I think that would be a bit unfair on Meghan but as ever it is perception that rules and for some this will be the worst example of a Royal ’cashing-in’ in the history of the family.”
Talking about the couple’s latest business venture, Netflix chief executive Ted Sarandos said that they are looking at making “impactful content that unlocks action” after expressing how “incredibly proud” he was of them for making the company “their creative home.”. While Meghan and Harry told in a joint statement, "As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us, as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens."
