Megan Rapinoe reveals her father voted for Trump, says parents watch Fox News all the time

33-year-old Rapinoe, who had come out as gay in 2012, has often slammed President Donald Trump's administration
UPDATED AUG 19, 2019

US women's soccer team co-captain Megan Rapinoe recently revealed that her own father had voted for Donald Trump during the 2016 election.

Her statement comes as Rapinoe had once described herself as a "walking protest" of the Trump administration.

In an interview to The Guardian, the World Cup Champion got candid as she shared that not only does her father support the president, but both of her parents often watch Fox News.

"I’m very similar to how [my parents] are, even though I think my dad voted for Trump and I’ll say, ‘I don’t get it. How are you simultaneously as proud as punch of me, and watching Fox News all the time, [who are doing] takedowns of your daughter?" she told The Guardian on Saturday, August 17.

While criticizing her parents' political choices, Rapinoe also shared that she has told them that they need to go to therapy.

The news outlet had covered Rapinoe's spat with POTUS after she shared that she would not visit the White House should the soccer team win.

The 33-year-old, who had come out as gay in 2012, has often slammed the Trump administration.

She has expressed her anger against social injustices by kneeling during the national anthem and also refusing to sing along with The Star-Spangled Banner at the World Cup.

The US president has also been very critical of her activism as he had responded to her in June by posting his views on Twitter.

At the time, he wrote, "Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!"

Recently, Rapinoe has demanded equal pay on national TV arguing that male soccer players earn a lot more.

As reported by SportsRush, she shared, "They’re the only employer that we could have playing for the national team, we’re the only employees that they could have, so for better or for worse we’re tethered together."

She added that women would not accept anything less than equal pay.

"We show up for a game, if we win the game if we lose the game if we tie the game, we want to be paid equally, period," Rapinoe shared.
