The Marvel Cinematic Universe's most recent instalment has received a positive response from the public, apart from earning billions at the box office. Since 2021, a lot of characters from Marvel Comics have been making their cinematic debut and the latest on the list is none other than Gorr the God Butcher from 'Thor: Love and Thunder.'

The character is played by Christian Bale, who gained a huge fanbase for his performance as Batman in The Dark Knight trilogy. Bale has been getting a lot of attention since the announcement that he would be the main antagonist in the latest MCU film. Gorr the God Butcher first appeared in the comics in 2013 and he came from an impoverished and barren planet that claimed his family when they starved or fell ill. When he discovered that the gods saw everything and let it happen, he swore to finish them all. This backstory was also shown in 'Thor: Love and Thunder' where Gorr's hatred and desire for revenge increase against various deities, including Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, following his daughter's death.

Why is Gorr MCU Phase 4's best villain?

MCU villains have always been unique and different from each other from the finger-snapping Thanos to the Winter Soldier who always kills his target, no matter what. However, two things make Gorr unique. The first is his mission which is based on a tragic and preventable loss. He uses his power to enhance his rage and pain and this makes him somewhat similar to Thanos, who wanted to obtain the power to bring balance to the universe. Just like Thanos, Gorr is also doing something that will right a wrong.

The second best thing about Gorr is his sinister aura. He is similar to a horror movie killer stalking someone in the dark. Nuance is something that we rarely get to see in MCU and so seeing a character doing his best to give new and different layers to his character is refreshing. Gorr is like a long and dark shadow cast on a sunny day. Placing him as a contrast in a light-hearted superhero-comedy movie is what makes him the best.

Unfortunately, the character does not appear in too many scenes or even for any considerable length of time, as the audiences would have expected. He deserves more screen time and involvement but his story and motivations serve merely as the film's background. But despite his limited screen time, Gorr the God Butcher had a great premise and is played by Bale who already had a track record of delivering pitch-perfect villany in 'American Psycho'.
