MCU Phase 4: In 'Moon Knight', Marvel may introduce a superhero who is much darker than 'The Dark Knight'

Unlike Batman, Moon Knight isn't driven by guilt. He serves Egyptian God Konshu and his strength depends on the varying phases of the moon and has powers of self-healing. To top it all, he is a dirty fighter.

'Moon Knight' will be making his way to the MCU. This announcement at the D23 Expo opened to a rapturous response from the audience. Soon after, theories flowed in about how Marvel decided to introduce its version of Batman. However, when you look at it, Batman is probably a man with some heart when compared to Moon Knight. Believe us when we say we have our reasons for this.

Moon Knight was created by Doug Moench and Don Perlin. He first appeared in the August 1975 issue of Werewolf by Night #32. To start with, Moon Knight has superpowers. His strength depends on the varying phases of the moon and has powers of self-healing. Plus, he's immune to telepathic attacks. Bruce Wayne is a mere mortal with some fancy gadgets and a superbrain to go with it. Next up, Moon Knight's a dirty fighter, no doubts there.

Before Marc Spector became Moon Knight, he was a highly trained mercenary, a former boxing champ, with additional training in Kung Fu, Judo, and Savate. In his military days, Marc was an expert marksman and proficient with a wide range of weapons. Yet, the man had to figure out a way of keeping up against more than formidable foes. Unlike Batman, Moon Knight isn't driven by guilt. He serves Egyptian God Konshu and doesn't believe in repeating mistakes. He had one sidekick, Midnight, and soon after his demise, operated alone.

However, the one thing in common between the two is they are super-rich and they have had near-death experiences. It is here that Marvel can establish a Batman-esque feel to the series, 'The Dark Knight' trilogy. 'Dawn of Justice' and 'Justice League' put forth a more serious side of the caped crusader. The tonality and the plot too was darker as it delved into Batman's way of thought rather than mindless action.

Perhaps, Marvel may take a leaf out of DC's book and add similar shades to their screenplay. We'll see a rather dark version of Moon Knight that also includes the same somber tones that were seen in Batman movies.

In addition, we can also look at how Marvel may see Spector more as a millionaire with a desire to flush out crime and evil, and not really have a playboy facade, something that Bruce Wayne did. Also, from a theme perspective, rest assured that 'She-Hulk' and 'Ms. Marvel' will not be as dark as 'Moon Knight'.

'Moon Knight' may not necessarily deal with the horror elements as 'Ghost Rider' and 'Helstrom', however, expect it to be dark and gory.

There is no release date confirmed for 'Moon Knight' yet. The show will be part of Disney + which will launch in November.
