BERLIN, GERMANY: James Beaufort's (Damian Hardung) ordeals reach their peak in the finale episode of 'Maxton Hall — The World Between Us'. In the Prime Video series, James, the son of a millionaire, gives in to his parent's desire to be admitted into Oxford and let go of his love.

Throughout the series, we see James struggling to have a healthy relationship with his father. Not only his father is emotionally unavailable, but he also restricts James from pursuing his passion.

However, in Episode 6, an emotional outburst causes James to take an unforeseen step, thus endangering his future.

When James and Lydia (Sonja Weißer) return home after an interview at Oxford University, their father delivers shocking news.

Mortimer Beaufort (Fedja van Huêt) tells James and Lydia that their mother had a stroke which led to her death. He adds that he didn't inform them earlier as the tragic news could hamper their performance at the interview.

While James and Lydia are still processing the death of their mother, Mortimer gets busy on a work-related call.

Upon witnessing no grief on his father's part and his undivided focus on his business, James loses his calm and attacks him. He keeps punching him, until he is stopped by his sister and chauffeur.

James' chauffeur escorts him out of the mansion in order to avoid further damage. In the final moments of the episode, we see James visiting Ruby Bell's (Harriet Herbig-Matten) house.

Instead of meeting her, he gazes through the window at her picture-perfect family, an aspect of life he never experienced.

James not only grapples with grief over his mother's death but also regrets his final conversation with her.

The season concludes with James' destiny uncertain. His love story with Ruby remains incomplete, and his position as the Beaufort heir is in danger, particularly following his confrontation with his father.

If there is another season, James may betray Ruby once again to fulfill his mother's last wishes of carrying forward the legacy of the Beaufort empire.

'Maxton Hall — The World Between Us' is available to stream on Prime Video.
