SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA: Buffalo Bills punter Matt Araiza, who has been accused of gang-raping a 17-year-old girl, reportedly told the teenager of getting a STD test. The 22-year-old, according to The Daily Mail, in a police-monitored phone call told Jane Doe that she needed to be tested for chlamydia after an alleged hour-and-a-half-long attack that left her bloody and crying.

Matt Araiza, whose real name is Matthew Ryan Araiza, is facing a civil lawsuit that was filed on Thursday, August 25 in California. The lawsuit filed in San Diego County Superior Court has named Matt Araiza, Zavier Leonard, and Nowlin 'Pa'a' Ewaliko as the prime suspects in the alleged gang rape. The incident allegedly took place at a Halloween party at a home where Matt Araiza had been living.

The plaintiff, 18 has been identified in the complaint as “Jane Doe” as she was underage at the time.  According to the Los Angeles Times, a criminal investigation has been launched into the allegations. No arrests have been made, so far, in the case. Also, San Diego Police have not publicly identified any suspects.

Matt Araiza's attorney told the Los Angeles Times that the accusations were untrue. The young league player will not be subjected to the NFL personal conduct policy over the alleged rape as the incident happened in 2021 before he became a league player. According to the lawsuit, the woman claimed Araiza gave her a drink at the party that "not only contained alcohol, but other intoxicating substances." She also claimed that after telling Araiza that she was a high school student and that he was aware of her obvious intoxication, he still demanded that she engage in oral sex.

Speaking of chlamydia, according to The Daily Mail, Araiza during his police-monitored call acknowledged having sex with the woman but when she asked him, “And, did we have actual sex?” he responded, “This is Matt Araiza. I don't remember anything that happened that night” and hung up. However, before getting off the call, he told her to get tested for chlamydia.

Attorney Dan Gilleon's firm told The Daily Mail in a statement, “Araiza told Doe that he had tested positive for chlamydia, at which time Doe was instructed to say, ''So you know what to get tested for Ok, that makes me feel a bit better’.” Gilleon said, “This was a horrific crime, the kind of which happens all too often” adding, “What makes these crimes different is not only that they were committed by self-entitled athletes.”

The attorney added, “Just as awful as the crimes, for months, multiple organizations--SDSU, the San Diego Police Department, the San Diego District Attorney, and now the Buffalo Bills--have acted the part of enablers looking the other way in denial that my client deserves justice even if the defendants are prized athletes.”
