'Marvel's What if...?' could see Vulture as the hero in 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' and Scorpion as the big bad villain

'Marvel's What If...?' could explore innumerable possibilities with regard to Spider-Man, and see probably Vulture as the hero, rather than the villain.

'Marvel's What If...?' fosters an endless stream of possibilities that could have taken place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and creates new and alternate histories. Let's take a look at Spider-Man: Homecoming.

What if there had been casualties in the ferry incident?

What if the Vulture had used his powers for good, and Scorpion was the main villain of the story?

What if the Vulture had exposed Spider-Man's true identity?

These are just a few of the intriguing theories that Marvel might want us to consider and watch through the eyes of Uatu the Watcher (Jeffrey Wright). Anything is possible. In the film, Peter (Tom Holland) is desperate to unravel the mystery surrounding the Vulture and the Scorpion, which leads to the ferry incident where a malfunctioning weapon almost blows up the vessel.

However, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) arrives in time and saves the day. He is furious with Peter and takes away the Spider-Man suit. But what if there had been casualties on the ferry that day? This would have affected Spidey on a psychological level and he would take time to recover from that. Not to mention, Tony would have taken away the suit for good and might have completely benched him. Or, he would wait for Peter to pick up the pieces and prove himself. This might not have been a drastic storyline change though.

The second possibility that could be explored is, what if the Vulture, Adrian Toomes, was not the villain of the story and had decided to use the powers for good? This might have changed around Peter's personal life as well, as his crush Liz might have just been in town. However, what if the Scorpion turned out to be the big bad instead? He would have been more than a match for Peter, and it would have been difficult to take him down, possibly enlisting the help of Iron Man and Vulture in the final battle.

In the second Spider-Man film, Far From Home, Spider-Man's identity is finally exposed by Mysterio. What if Vulture had done this in the first film itself? It could have either worked in Peter's favor or complicated his school life further. This would've created new plotlines for Far From Home, if not Avengers Infinity War itself.

'Marvel's What If...?' will release in 2021.
