A married high school volleyball coach who allegedly engaged in a threesome with a teen boy and an adult female former teacher has now been charged with rape.

40-year-old Joyce Churchwell turned herself in to authorities after a warrant for her arrest on a charge of first-degree rape was issued on Tuesday in Tulsa County, Oklahoma, the New York Post reports.

The Berryhill Public Schools coach communicated with the student, then 18, on Snapchat in mid-2019 and sent him nude photos and videos of herself, police said.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Churchwell and the other woman, a former teacher in the district who cannot be named for legal reasons, messaged the student saying they were at Churchwell's residence and that her husband was out of town — before inviting him over for a threesome.

A school resource officer subsequently tipped off the police in December last year.

During an interrogation with authorities, the student admitted that he went to Churchwell's home and engaged in sexual intercourse with the two adult women.

If a victim in Oklahoma is between 16 and 20 years old and is a student while engaging in sexual intercourse with a school system employee, state law defines it as rape. That said, the general age of consent in Oklahoma is 16. Nonetheless, the other adult woman who was part of the threesome has not been charged in the case thus far.

According to a statement by Berryhill Public Schools, Churchwell is on a leave of absence from the school pending an investigation.

"The Berryhill School District takes the safety of its students very seriously and does everything it can to provide a safe learning environment," the district said in a statement. "The district is currently cooperating with law enforcement in the investigation of these allegations and will take appropriate action when the investigation is completed."

As of Wednesday evening, Churchwell was still in police custody pending a cash bond of $5,000.
