Over 15 years, Dr Scott and Contessa Metcalfe raised three kids, expanded their businesses, and did all they could to ensure that their marriage is a long-lasting one. Until it started to crumble. Just last season, the couple got caught in an endless argument over Contessa wanting to pursue a degree in public health. Even though she would be away for a semester, Scott was not completely supportive of her choices because deep down he knew they'd have to make sacrifices as a family for her to achieve her dream.

With the kind of fights they have had, it's clear that communication is a major roadblock in their relationship. They have taken up marriage counseling but it has not yielded the kind of results they were hoping it would. While the discomfort and gap continue to intensify, the couple has decided to practice medicine together, build a joint clinic. Will this work in their favor, help them build their marriage from the ground up? Only time will tell.

Meanwhile, fans have weighed in with their two cents about the new path they have chosen. Some pointed out that they were dragging their marriage either for the kids or to stay relevant on the show.

"Scott and Contessa don't seem like a couple that needs to work together...I also wonder if they are just there for the kids #Married2Med," one commented, while another shared:  "Scott and CONEtessa are doing any and everything to stay on this show #Married2Med."

"Working together while also trying to resolve serious issues in your marriage? Not a great plan. #Married2Med #marriedtomedicine," a user tweeted. "What is wrong with black men thinking they don’t need counseling/therapy? #Married2Med If you could’ve done it on your own, it would’ve been done by now," another wrote.

"So now they are opening a new practice when their marriage is still strained and I thought she felt neglectful of her kids but decided to go back to school and back to work anyways? I’m confused by Contessa #married2med," a viewer expressed.

Addressing marital issues, Contessa shared that it has been "trying" for her and Scott. What didn't help was the pandemic and them having to work extra shifts to ensure people were receiving timely medical attention. All of this put together took a toll on their relationship.

"We've been through a lot and when communication starts really getting to a point where it ceases, then it starts to really affect the relationship," Dr Contessa exclusively shared with E! News and added: "You start having to figure out where you're going to go from there. I think with the pandemic and us working all the time and me finishing up on my degree and definitely having some resentment about not feeling supported in that and then me opening up my own practice, it's just a lot. It's been trying on our relationship."
