Married teacher had sex with teen, solicited picture of his penis and texted if he 'preferred boobs or bum'
A court was told that a 35-year-old teacher allegedly had sex with a schoolboy in a field. Kandice Barber also allegedly asked the15-year-old if he “preferred boobs or bum”. The woman was standing trial for a second time over a 2018 child abuse accusation when she was doing supply work at Princes Risborough school in Buckinghamshire, The Daily Mail reported. She is facing three counts of sexual activity with a child. Jurors at Amersham Law Courts heard how Barber kissed the victim on the neck and asked him, “What do you want to do now?”
“He had just finished school. She kissed him on the neck, he kissed her back, she then whispered, ‘what do you want to do now?’ She touched him along his clothing and on his abs area. She said, ‘do you want to have sex?’ and he said, ‘I don't mind’ and then, ‘yes’,” Miss Recorder Bal Dhaliwal, summarising the complainant's evidence, told the court on Tuesday, January 26. The jurors also heard the mother-of-three had received an unsolicited picture of the victim’s abdominal muscles and a picture of his penis. While witnesses said they found objectionable messages from Barber on the boy’s iPhone. One of the texts stated, “Do you prefer boobs or bum?” However, the women's lawyers have claimed that there was “no independent evidence” that concludes that their client was guilty. They also said that Barber’s car was not captured in traffic cameras near the fields when the alleged sex happened.
“It is physically impossible, you may conclude, for her to meet him at location X and avoid three ANPR cameras, that she does not even know are at the location. The ANPR agreed facts tell you there may be a number of reasons it did not activate: the camera might not have been working - we know it was working and we know there are three of them in this location. That is the sort of independent evidence that makes you sure they met up, isn't it, and you do not have it here and the reason is not because they did not check - they investigated it and then checked it - the reason you may think there is not any is because they did not go there,” Nadia Chbat, who is defending Barber, stated.
Besides, a prosecutor also accused Barber of “slipping up” in court after she did not mention in court about her earlier questioning over other offenses. When she came in the witness box during her trial, she said, “I was advised by my solicitor, I have never been in this position before.” Prosecutor Richard Milne disclosed that Barber’s previous name was Kandice Keenan and years ago, the Department of Social Security interrogated her and convicted her over failing to mention a change in a situation regarding benefits in 2013. Not just that, in 2012, Kent Police questioned her on suspicion of theft by an employee. At the time, she was doing some book-keeping for a dance studio. However, the probe later revealed that Barber was not guilty.
Milne, in his closing speech at the Amersham Law Courts, said, “Mrs Barber is smart, she is not a fool, she is savvy, she is an adult, she is a teacher, she was in a teaching role at the school. Was she being given the run around by this boy simply making all of this up? She gave a no comment interview and a prepared statement effectively denying all of the allegations. You may think she slipped up, she over-egged the pudding when she was explaining away why it was she offered no comment. She slipped up didn't she, members of the jury, because she had been in precisely the position you may think at least once, certainly by admission if not twice. How do you forget that you have been interviewed by Kent Police just a few years before? How do you forget that the DSS interviewed you under caution, resulting in a conviction? She is smart, members of the jury, she did not forget. She was trying to pull the wool over your eyes.”
