TRENTON, NEW JERSEY: A 45-year-old woman has had her teaching license and credentials suspended after she was accused of adopting a former student so she could have sex with him.

New Jersey's State Board of Examiners moved to suspend Rayna Culver's license during a meeting that took place in mid-September. A final decision will be made on her license once her case has been resolved.

45-year-old Rayna Culver had been indicted last year on two counts of first-degree aggravated assault, four counts of second-degree sexual assault, and two counts of second-degree child endangerment.

Culver has been placed on leave from her position at a middle school located in Trenton ever since being arrested in 2017. She has been accused of sleeping with a student, 15, whom she had taken in when his family had kicked him out.

Authorities have said that things took a dark turn when their relationship turned sexual. "(The victim) believed that the purpose of her taking him in was to eventually make sex a part of their relationship."

As per reports, she had met the boy in 2013 when he was in middle school. She then proceeded to become his legal guardian in 2016 when he was just 15.

Investigators have revealed that they have 'biological' evidence and also racy texts that the student and teacher allegedly exchanged.

The victim had spoken to the authorities and shared that the sexual encounters initially had been consensual but that Culver would get angry if he told her that he wanted them to stop.

Culver's lawyers had earlier told the Trentonian that the victim had 'fabricated' all the allegations.

In 2017, her attorney Robin Lord had said, "She looks forward to these charges being dismissed. The state’s theory of the case is a completely fabricated recitation made up by a troubled young man."
