'Married At First Sight': Derek and Katie stay married, shocked fans say he's in it just for 'makeup sex'
Derek Sherman and Katie Conrad have been experiencing issues in their marriage lately. The couple started off well and were easily one of the in-love and invested couples of 'Married At First Sight' Season 10. But along the way, the two lost touch with the love they were priding themselves on.
The first time they found themselves in a sticky situation was when Katie admitted to having been hung up on her ex-boyfriend and Derek's strong reaction to it. He said he didn't have to feel like he was competing with another person in his marriage. It was frustrating for both of them but they eventually snapped out of it.
The best bit about Katie and Derek has been that no matter the fight, they were able to resolve and quickly get back to being the adorable couple they started off as. But the happy phase only lasted a while for them.
Derek comes across as an emotionally-charged person. He has dreams he would like to pursue but Katie not supporting them and calling them childish only makes it harder for the pair to make their relationship easy-breezy.
Even when they were at the couple's retreat, what could have been an opportunity to relax, let their guards down and explore each other in a better way, turned into something completely nasty with both of them yelling at each other. Katie thought Derek being friendly with Taylor Dunklin was something he shouldn't have done and that was what put her off. Even though Katie came off as unreasonable, she really was being a jealous wife.
Katie was having second thoughts and for a while, viewers thought the couple would divorce on decision day but they didn't. Derek acknowledged that they have had a lot of arguments lately but he would like to make it work and he loves the fact that they can just be silly and have fun even in the stupidest of situations. Meanwhile, Katie shared that the challenges have been many in their relationship but she would like to stay married to Derek too. "You're a nice guy," she said.
Fans, however, thought that Derek said yes to Katie because he likes the idea of make-up sex.
