Mark Hamill wants 2020 Democratic nominee to pick Michelle Obama as running mate
Mark Hamill, best known for his role as Luke Skywalker in the billion-dollar 'Star Wars' franchise, has called for any potential Democratic presidential candidate to consider running with former First Lady Michelle Obama on the ticket.
Taking to Twitter, Hamill, who has become quite outspoken in his disdain for President Donald Trump, wrote, "I hope whoever becomes the Democratic presidential nominee will consider @MichelleObama as their running mate. #DreamTeam2020."
The tweet quickly went viral on social media, gathering more than 23,000 likes, with many of his three million followers agreeing that Michelle would be a great choice for vice president because of her previous experience and qualifications.
"You can’t go wrong with a Harvard educated lawyer whose intelligent, compassionate, and kind," one follower wrote.
"Actually, I'd rather see her first in the Senate and THEN as President. She is a class, class act and does so much for the country!" wrote a second.
"She promotes mental and physical health as opposed to deceitful appearances. Kind of the opposite of the Trump family," another tweeted.
Hamill's remarks came in the wake of presidential hopeful and Barack Obama's former vice president Joe Biden revealing that he would like Michelle to be his running mate during a rally in Muscatine, Iowa, last month.
"Well I sure would like Michelle to be the vice president," he had said.
However, despite the undoubted support she would garner if she did throw her hat in the ring, Michelle has previously ruled out the possibility that she would find herself in the Oval Office once again. "There's zero chance," she said in an interview last year when asked if she would consider inserting herself in the presidential race. "There are so many ways to improve this country and build a better world, and I keep doing plenty of them, from working with young people to helping families lead healthier lives."
"But sitting behind the desk in the Oval Office will never be one of them. It’s just not for me."
She had echoed a similar sentiment during an appearance on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live,' claiming it was a role she was not interested in holding. "I haven’t had any serious conversations with anyone about it because it’s not something that I’m interested in or would ever do. Ever," she told Kimmel.
