The infamous kiss: Mark Hamill sets the record straight on Luke and Leia's 'incestuous' kiss
Mark Hamill jokingly clarified one of the more widely-discussed scenes in 'Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back'. Regarded as one of the best movies in the franchise by fans, the movie was responsible for introducing new and vital characters in Yoda and Lando Calrissian, and also featured the engrossing and epic showdown between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. However, it was the Luke and Leia kiss that became rather controversial, especially after the revelation that they were brother and sister in 'Return of the Jedi'.
The series may have focussed on the love triangle between Han Solo and Leia, but fans were unforgiving of the whole incestuous angle, and now Hamill, who played Luke in the decorated saga took to Twitter to explain the kiss. In response to a tweet by a fan's photo of a cosplayer who was dressed as a Stormtrooper holding a placard that read, 'at least we didn't kiss our sister', Hamill wrote a cheeky reply saying, 'Since we didn't know we were siblings when we lip-locked, I've always considered it ""innocestuous"' #GuiltyWithAExplanation"

Hamill's fun reply is one of the many references to 'Star Wars' on Twitter in recent times. Quite recently, he also reposted some of his official autograph inscriptions on trading cards, while also sharing some memorable BTS moments during his time with the films he was part of. While the actor's tongue-in-cheek reply may have bought some comic relief, there's no denying that the reveal gave way to one of the more awkward instances for the franchise's ardents. 'The Empire Strikes Back' had a massive cultural impact that is felt to this day, especially by every child named Luke born after 1980. It's also had an impact on the amazing actors who brought the movie to life and none more so than Mark Hamill.
Whether this will stir up more of the debate or perhaps be the one-off discussion that comes up every the film is mentioned remains to be seen. After all, 'Star Wars' fans are often called the best, eagle-eyed, and in many ways unabashed with their opinions on any content that comes out.
