Marilu Henner reveals she and Treat Williams ‘never stopped kissing’ during their first Broadway show
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Marilu Henner recently reflected on her "lifelong" bond with Treat Williams as she paid him a moving tribute following his tragic death in a motorcycle accident. The 71-year-old Hollywood veteran died on Monday, June 12, when a Honda driver signaled left into a parking lot and fatally struck Williams, who sustained multiple injuries as he hit the ground hard.
Remembering Williams, the ‘Evening Shade’ star, 71, revealed that she first met him during her first Broadway show, ‘Over Here’. "We played two characters who were madly in love. We never stopped kissing the whole show,” she told People. After the hit show, Williams even helped Henner in the early stages of her acting career in New York City. “He let me stay at his place in New York when we were starting out,” the ‘Aurora Teagarden Mysteries’ star shared, adding, “We had done Broadway and the show got canceled before I had another job, and he let me stay in his apartment when he was off doing another gig."
'We never lost contact'
Williams and Henner both went on to star in Hallmark Channel productions after co-starring in 'Grease' on Broadway. The actress revealed that they "never lost touch" until Williams’ sudden death. “We supported each other and we always checked in. He was an extraordinary person. He was so talented. We were a staple in each other’s lives and we were in the Hallmark family. He had great energy and he loved being an actor and he loved his family most of all. And loved his life. This is so painful to all of us who loved him,” she remembered.
The ‘Taxi’ star described Williams as a "vibrant and funny" person, who “a great passion for everything he did.” “He loved Vermont. And he was so proud of his kids and his wife. We never lost contact. Never,” Henner continued.
The ‘Everwood’ actor’s agent of 15 years, Barry McPherson, confirmed his death, saying. "I'm just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented. He's been the heart of Hollywood since the late 1970s. He was really proud of his performance this year. He's been so happy with the work that I got him.”
How did Treat Williams die?
Following McPherson’s statement, it was revealed that Williams was riding his motorbike close to his Vermont home when he was struck by a car on Route 30 by Long Trail Auto in Dorset, Vermont, on Monday, around 5.00 pm. Fire chief Jacob Gribble reportedly said that investigators believe the car's driver was turning and didn’t see the actor's motorcycle. The impact of the crash threw Williams from his motorcycle. He was airlifted to Albany Medical Centre in Albany, New York, where he succumbed to his injuries.
