"I have a unique viewpoint on the struggles of immigrants," says Peabody winning journalist Mariana Atencio
Mariana Atencio has come a long way from "being an immigrant from a corner of the world often labelled as the third world," and the MSNBC and NBC News reporter believes she has arrived at the right platform to make a change for people making the same journey as hers.
The Caracas-born news personality has covered a variety of domestic and international issues, and along the way has picked up a Peabody Award (Atencio was one of the five reporters on the award-winning winning documentary 'Rapido y Furioso'), a Gracie Award (for her work on the Univision documentary 'Pressured: Freedom of the Press') and even a TED speaking assignment.
For her stint with NBC and MSNBC since 2016, the Miami-based Atencio has taken on many important issues head first and at ground zero, traveling all the over the world to report. Be it talking to families separated at the border, reporting from the migrant caravan, or meeting with hurricane survivors in Puerto Rico, Mariana has been at the center of issues that have dominated American discourse in recent times.
